How much do minor leaguers make ?

Hi.

I'm curious, how much do AHLers and ECHLers earn ? Do rookie two-way contracts have a minor-league cap ? And if so, how much is it ? 75K ? I remember that being the figure that was put into the contract the Flyers offered to Lindros, but I really have no idea if that's a standard salary for an AHLer.

AHLers seem to be very excited whenever they hear the hint of a rumour of a call-up, so I'm wondering what impact it has on their wallet.

Thanks

I believe two-way contracts are worth 1/10th of their NHL value when in the minors, so that's a huge increase.

No clue what the average minor league contract is though for ECHLers.

The ECHL has a $10,000 a week salary cap.

$85,000 is the AHL maximum. That was the number being bandied about during the Lindros discussions.

The average ECHL salary is $16,500. Link

Thanks a lot for that article. I had no idea the AHL cap was so low.

You can better grasp the exhilaration and excitement an 8-year AHL vet must feel when he gets a call up.

And how do ECHLers do to survive ? Do they work in the offseason ?

In the UHL housing is provided so players don't have to worry about paying rent. I assume the ECHL would do the same.

Housing, phone, etc. is all taken care of by the team in the ECHL.

And most teams give them very nice living conditions.

And yes, most minor leaguers work during the summer to help provide for them and their families.

Here's a couple of dated sources, but they should give one some idea;

From the CBA, http://letsgopens.com/nhl_cba.php?id=9 , applicable to players on entry level (2-way) contracts:

9.4. Minor League Compensation. Each Player Contract entered
into with a Rookie in the Entry Level System shall automatically
be deemed to be a "two way" contract with a minor league salary
equal to the minor league salary set forth in such Player
Contract or, if no minor league salary is set forth, the greater
of (i) $25,000 and (ii) the minimum minor league salary provided
for players in the Minors; provided, however, in no event may
such a Player Contract provide for minor league Compensation,
including any bonuses for games played, greater than 50% of the
NHL Minimum Compensation. The maximum Compensation payable to a
Group I Player who is playing in the Major Juniors shall be
$7,500 for players drafted in the 1995, 1996 and 1997 Entry
Drafts and $8,500 for players drafted in the 1998, 1999 and 2000
Entry Drafts.

From the Business of Hockey website, badly in need of updating;
