Warning: Another bad Comrie Proposal!!!

hey, I'm watching the Columbus/ Washington game and realized how much I'd love to have Bondra on the Oilers PP, imagine him with Oates again?
Anyways, here's a blockbuster that you guys will probably all hate but in my head it works.

P. Bondra
S. Eminger
1st Round Draft Pick

for

M.Comrie
J. Smith
G. Laraque
3rd Round Draft Pick

Lines after trade:
Smyth-Oates-Bondra
Torres-York-Dvorak
Isbister-Stoll-Hemsky
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani
Chimera-Horcoff-Salmo (extras)

Brewer-Semenov
Staios-Eminger
Bergeron-Cross
Ferguson

Salo/Conklin

PP Unit
Smyth-Oates-Bondra
York-Bergeron

I think that looks pretty solid upfront, Torres and Isbister could alternate depending on who has the hotter hand. We would have 3 #1 lines basically. the funny thing is if this was to happen, we would have 12 players that were not on our roster to start last season. We would still have some team toughness, and without Laraque, guys like Moreau, Ferguson, Torres, Chimera, Isbister and Staios couls still handle themselves in a fight.

I don't think Washington would do it. I'd be surprised if the Oilers could get Eminger for Comrie, and that leaves Smith (UFA), Laraque, and a 3rd for Bondra and a 1st. I don't think the Oilers give up enough.

P. Bondra
S. Eminger
1st Round Draft Pick
(Grier)

for

M.Comrie
J. Smith
G. Laraque
2nd Round Draft Pick
(Horcoff, Chimera)

(Adjust the trade accordingly so it makes sense to you.)

I think Bondra is in the 4 mil range, but Caps would eat some of that, with the market the way it is, he'd probably be taking a pay cut after that. And we'd prob be less J.Smith, T.Salo's contracts next year so we'd have some flexibility budget wise to re-sign him for say 2/3 yrs.
The 1st rounder would likely be in the top 10, but who knows. anyways, I think it works in theory, and definately wont leave us worse off, we wont be adding too much salary if any. (Comrie, Smith and Laraque= approx 5-6 mil yr.)

I'd be more concerned about Bondra's salary, actually...and with the Caps looking to shed payroll, they might be more inclined to do that deal than in past years.

Plus Bondra would be a UFA again at the end of his contract, which ends...?

Maybe a trade deadline deal so the Oilers don't pay that much of Bondra's salary??

Hmm... if Bondra's an UFA, that might change things. Still, I'm not sure if Washington would do it, and not sure if Edmonton would want Bondra (if he's UFA).

Trade doesn't look too bad. However Washington will probably not give up their first. There is a shot that it could be a top 3 pick or maybe even Ovechkin. Bondra and Eminger is more than enough for that package.

Bondra's contract status is the main reason I threw the pick in.
so maybe a conditional draft pick instead.
