O'sullivan article on nhl.com

O'sullivan article on nhl.com .. it seems pretty positive and that maybe O'sullivan could turn the corner by next season.

Nice read. Good stuff...

I find this modesty encouraging:

"Last year, I was able to play with a couple of older guys. I think a lot of times teams were probably more worried about them than me," he said.

That article punches holes in a lot of the speculation around here about O'Sullivan's perceived bad attitude and lack of perspective. And the quote KB noted would suggest some humility as well.

If there's anyone in this town that knows anything about hockey that has doubts about Patrick O'Sullivan's natural ability, I would suggest bed rest and medication

Tubby what is it that makes you so sure about PO's ability? Have you seen him play alot? I'm just curious.

The only time I've seen him play was during his short stint here in LA, and he was less then impressive to say the least. Infact I have a hard time even imagining him being effective. What's a good player to compare O'sully to? The only comparison I've heard is Lehoux (courtesy of KB).

Aside from one live Houston Aeros game last year, just video of his junior and minor league play (and his time in LA.) I've found him to be very creative, and maybe just plain lucky, but that's about 4 or 5 years worth of luck...

Give O'Sullivan some time in the minors, he will find his game and improve in other facets and will be ready to turn pro real soon.
Just look at the names of some notable names who rounded spent some time in the minors before developing into impact players;

Martin St. Louis - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=18067
Jason Spezza - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=42311
Pavol Demitra - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php3?pid=1325
Jonathan Cheechoo - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=31215
Daniel Briere - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=16000
Ziggy Palffy even spent a couple seasons in the IHL - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php3?pid=4119
Andy McDonald - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=26682
Erik Cole - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=35409
Also look how long it took for Maxim Afinogenov to develop, http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...id%5B%5D=33997
Same with Brian Gionta, http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=35504
Jason Williams - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...id%5B%5D=25856
Jason Pominville - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=43775
Derek Roy - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=50145
We can also include Cammalleri on this list, http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php3?pid=49660
And you can go on and on with this...

The point is, give him time. He will learn what he needs to do to make it and stick in the NHL. He's succeeded at every level and he will eventually in the NHL.

You realize, of course, that none of those guys ever amounted to anything. Bottom-feeding trade fodder, the lot of them.

I didn't realize that he was banged up that badly and in that much discomfort. Also, not being able to eat properly can put a person in a bad mood. Perhaps all of these things influenced his assignment to Manchester. Patrick mentions that the Kings wanted him to play through discomfort, so, perhaps, he was making a big enough deal out of it that it was perceived as excuse-making.

It sounds like he's being taught the right things and it's encouraging to hear from him. Thanks for the link, kingswin.
