Would Kenny Jonsson ever return?

Just a question. I know the story about wanting to raise his family in Sweden, but he'd be a $4-5M per season player right now. Amazing he can stay away, but you have to respect him if he's that principled.

By all accounts from the past off-season, he's been planning to come back to the NHL next year.

Any indications if he is coming back to any particular team or will he be testing the open market?

I've not seen any evidence that he has an interest in coming back. His two year deal is up this coming summer. But, he seems to be happy in Europe and there is no reason to believe he'll be looking for an NHL contract at that time.

He would be a very high level guy in the "new" NHL though, and would make a great signing.

Would make a great islander...o wait he already has. I think he could bring in more than 4-5 he could bring in 5 to 6.5 mil. The guy is an amazing player and possibly one of the most underrated players in the last decade. He finally got some real recognition during the olympics. But as for him coming back, i doubt it. And if he does i hope its only with the isles.

I think money is the great equalizer in this instance. If he can come back as a free agent and sign for $5M a season in a two or three year deal it wouldn't suprise me. Money talks and that sort of coin would do a lot of good for his family. I was just thinking that based on what we saw last summer the market for a puck moving defenseman is very inflated right now. When Jovo is getting $6.5M per you have to know the financial incentive will be there for Jonsson to return.

He could be happy in low-profile Atlanta playing with Nic Havelid, and they could afford him if they didn't resign Sutton and deVries.

Not everything is about money, people...some things are about Sweden.

Almost.
By all accounts he has opened up for the possibility of NHL.

But he might just as well stay in Rögle (who looks like they could be SEL next season).
And he has mused about playing with brother Jörgen in Färjestad.

On top of the other stuff one should note that he's been injured almost the entire season so far (no, not with concussions, broken arm and sprained ankle).

I'd say that there's some 10-30% chance that he might sign witn an NHL team next spring/summer.

You're most likely correct, but fortunately for Kenny he recently turned 32.

What I wouldn't give to add Jonsson to the Isles. Say goodbye to Poti and we could easily afford 4m or so for him this summer, or even more if the cap goes up as expected.

My guess is that he would love to play on a winning team, make 4-5m USD ect.

But when he sits down to make the decision, he thinks about his body. He is out allot on the All-Swedish league (2nd tier). I've followed him along time, he have had a ton of concussions, he have a bad knee and a bad back.

The feeling I got when he returned to Rögle were that it was one more year and then retire early.

Though then the rule changed, he got picked for the Olympics and WCH and were fantastic. That must have been extremely fun for him.

So in the end my guess is that he don't know himself if he is gooing to return. From reports it one day seems like he is gooing, another that he is staying. Though, in the end, again my guess only, is that he is staying.

Its very possible that if he would sign with a NHL team he wouldn't finnish the season, something I am sure he is very aware of. Dragging his family across the atlantic to finnish a year in the stands couldn't be a good way to finnish a career.

I would like to think Kenny would give the isles first crack at him . I'm not sure about my fellow isles fans , but I have this empty feeling of how we never really had a chance to say goodbye or thank you to his great years of service

I think we all feel the same way. He was a great dman for us and went unoticed. I met him once for a signature and went looking for his picture in a hockey magazine and he said dont bother they dont put me in those magazines anyway thats for young flashy players. That sums him up a class act who is extremely overlooked. He would add so much to the isles d if he came back. But as i said before i dont think he will.
