Rumor: Malone and Welch for Boyes

http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/spe...e_rumours.html

Would you do it? and if it happens, how would both fit into the current lineup? Would Malone be put on the third/fourth line and would Welch be given a chance as a 5-6 D-man or put in the juniors for the season? IMO, I think its good for the Pens short term and a good deal for the Bruins in that Malone might be lazy but he puts up good numbers and Welch's upside is pretty damn high (and I heard he is a Bruins fan as well)

not that horrible a deal though. Malone has a little bit of baggage but hes a big kid who has the talent to put up some points, although he may need a kick in the rear (a trade, maybe?) to make it happen. Welch from what I heard is highly coveted and well liked. Pretty even deal. I'd have to think about a little and dig a little deeper before leaning one way or the other.

Where is this deal speculated in the link? I didn't see anything other than a little piece about the Bruins being interested in Malone. Mentioned nothing of Welch or Boyes.

Yuck. I know Boyes is kinda in a slump. But he is one of the last players I want to see traded.

I wouldn't trade Boyes just yet. True, he is in a slump. But if he can find his way out of it, he could be a wonderful addition to this team. I did some more research on Malone. True, he does bring grit. But his numbers...well, not exactly stellar.

If we're going to deal Boyes, I'd at least want it to be for something a bit better.

Wasn't this a rumor a month ago too? I think this one is way more smoke than fire. And why would the Bruins want another young d-man?

I'd do it. Maybe sub a pick for Malone. I like Welch's game and future alot, and think Boyes has hit a plateau in terms of skill and production.

Seriously.

Whitney is untouchable.

As a Pens fan I'm not sure where I stand. I'm really high on Welch's game and considering we're in such desperate need for defenseman...

I'm not normally up for dealing our "keepers" like Boyes, but...

Done. I like the deal.

Could be happy either way...Keep Boyes...Or move him for Malone and Welch...

Interesting how I started a thread on the Pens board a few hours ago after seeing Malone and the Bruins mentioned on Spector's, but I added that there were rumblings of Welch and Boyes being included in the off-season, and now those players have been miraculously grafted onto the OP's interpretation of Spector's rumour as though it were written there.

Fantasy/Reality. Who's to say which is which?

Inshort, a downgrade in offense and an upgrade in defense is not what this team needs.

Considering there's been rumors about him coming to Pittsburgh almost since Shero was hired...that makes me think Brad Boyes isn't.

I really don't want to see Boyes go, but at the same time I love what I've heard about Welch. Boyes has been playing better lately.

Why would we want to trade a proven player for more prospects?

It isn't. I imagine the OP read the thread on the Pittsburgh board that was inspired by the Spector entry and misconstrued that as the actual rumour.

The End.

Welch being picked up would definitely rain all over the future happiness of Jurcina with the Bruins.

Pittsburg would be a team that would have need of Jurcina were we to move him.

I'd prob try to toss Jurcina into this deal and figure out a way to flip draft picks in our benefit. Maybe give them our fourth rounder this year and then have the option to take both a second and a third rounder in any of the next 3 seasons?

I am pretty sure Jircina isnt worth a first rounder and would doubt he is even worth a second rounder straight up unless he has a good 10-15 game streak before the day he is dealt.

Packaged into a deal like this though he might grease the works and sweeten the pot for us.

Malone would add a whole new dimension to our third line really increasing the offensive potential of it. It would allow us to let Primeau walk and free up that money to maybe throw at a Paul Kariya or Chris Drury type to come in and play with Bergeron next year?

Unless Toivonen gets his game together we arent going to be able to make a run at the cup this year anyhow. Our forwards are not going to skate a team like Buffalo or Carolina into the ground. Thomas isnt going to be able to outplay Miller or Ward or Brodeur come playoff time.

We arent far away from being able to go to the next step... but I definitely think shuffling around some affordable third liners and then grabbing one more higher quality star up front prob is the way we have to go.

Get B Stuart signed with the increasing cap room... be prepared to let Mara/Sturm/Primeau go to free up the cap space to get a new super linemate for Bergeron... hope one or two of the kids step up next year... and that Toivonen can be the real deal...

it takes a bit of luck but its not impossible. A Welch/Malone pickup would fit into this forumla nicely.

Boyes isn't irreplaceable if the team were to have the cap space to sign a guy like Kariya or Drury to fill his spot. And we do have alot of other kids that are going to need offensive time to thrive too.

Deal works for me

How about Boyes for some sock tape and water bottles!!! At least we can get some use out of them.
