Ok I just decided to check out those games more seriously.
6 out of 8 games on the road.
Panthers. Somehow they always make it difficult.
We play washington twice. In washington.
7 wins 1 loss 1 overtime loss in their last 8 games.
They beat the Stars, Sabres and Senators during that stretch. Their only regulation loss was against the Ducks.
Lightning twice. We just beat them but the better team that day was them.
I dont consider any of those games as easy like it was refered to. I'm really curious to see Washington if there just on a streak or if they are the real deal this year. Apparently Kolzig is playing MVP type hockey.
I think the caps key this season based upon my limited viewing of the team has been their relentless work ethic. They play like a hungry pack of wolves. Plus, kolzig is playing really well... and we all know what he is capable of to start with.
These types of teams scare me. They kind of remind me of the Flames from the pre lockout when they had their coming out party. One superstar, a fantastic goalie, and an amazing work ethic. Like the flames of 04, the caps lack offensive depth. But Semin and Ovechkin are getting by so far. I guess the comparison ends on Defense, however.
Znk is dead on - you don't expect to win any games, not in today's NHL. The Habs are more than likely a playoff team barring injuries to key players like Huet and Koivu, but it doesn't make them unbeatable. You really do have to take it one game at a time, and want to win each game.
Larry Robinson once spoke of how the Habs of the late 70's feared losing, they hated it. Ken Dryden wrote about players on those teams not wanting to lose an exhibition game, regular season, or playoff game. Scotty kept the players focussed on each game, whether it was Kansas City or Boston.
The difference with that team was that it was by far the dominant team in the league as opposed to this year's club, yet they never took an opponent for granted and looked at the schedule with the assumption that they'd never lose. I can remeber that team losing to Los Angeles and Colorado on western swings...found it hard to believe as I never expected them to lose, but something about the warmer climate of LA in the middle of the winter was always a distraction for the team, they lost there more than once.
Teams rarely go to Florida and come away with two regulation wins, and as Znk wrote, Washington is as hot as any team in the league the past ten, they're not wallflowers. Ollie the goalie is on his game...can folks not recall him winning games on his own?
Montreal will lose at least a couple of those road games, be ready for it.
I was refering to a fans point of view not the players [point of view or what we want them to be thinking. I am looking at a schedule and i see a favorible schedule. Thats all. The schedule is being debated and thats great, but there is only 1 top team in that schedule Buffalo. The other teams are all teams fighting for a playoff spot. Thats all i meant.
We are playing good(PP and PK) and Huet has been outstanding. Higgins was set to return and he did and now were goingto be even better when Begin gets back. I thought that we could go 7-1-1 and were doing good so far. We can get excited about a schedule were fans. If you want top discuss what you want our team to think that is another entire thread.
The Buffalo game was another Great Game!! I love the matchup, always provides exciting games. Lap's had a great game is looking more confident and was in better position defensivly. The boy is on some kind of streak . Lats, well the whole 4th line had an amazing game. They are really clicking. Carbo for the first time could roll 4 lines and we had zero holes. Even Niinimma had a good game. aside from the stupid missed icing and subsequent goal, i thought we had a good game even in the second when we were out shot. They had 6:00 minutes in power play time. BUt we still had some good pressure and chances. The third was very well played. Huet is playing as good as ever. The only thing we could use is an upgrade at 2nd line center and move pleks to the 4th or if he has to go we have the depth with begin back and laps with lats on the 4th. If pleks has to be the guy off the roster in a trade for a Center well it wont hurt, we have depth there. But i'd rather keep pleks and trade niinimma and pick or someone from hamilton.
anyway good win in buffalo, i think we need to bring in abby for phili. Huet has played a few in a row. Give abby Philli. we need to keep him fresh as much as possible. In case we trade him cor the center. He will need to be playing well to fetch what we want.
