You sure?

I always (and I believe most of this here Avs board is in agreeance with me) thought that he posted under the name "Naira Retad"?

Thanks AD.

I have to admit...I'm relieved...I thought it was season ending.
There's nothing relieving about the injury status that I see in his statement. He's gone a minimum of a month. Given the chronic nature of groin pain (like pelvic pain in women), Leopold could still be out longer. There's one positive that was noted before...his monetary value likely shouldn't increase that much for next season. This is important since Liles will more than likely get a big raise. Colorado's going to need all the money they can use to get one of Hannan, Hartnell, Datsyuk, Drury, Briere or Brad Stuart.

Ahhh...should he or one of those guys become available. I think the chances are good that one of Briere or Drury will become a free agent. I would personally choose Briere given his ability to potentially score 100 points and his ox-like lower body strength. Drury may be clutch, but he's inconsistent.

I also think Hannan could become a free agent. He must know that he can cash in big time as an UFA. I think with San Jose's other salary commitments, they would find it difficult to keep him around. But, these are just guesses on my part.

I'm more looking forward to the off-season in a couple years from now when Kipper, Iginla and Regher could become UFAs. The salary cap will also be much closer to 50 million dollars. Maybe I should move this post to the trade thread?

Thats ok, just as long as he isn't in danger of harming his career or development by being hampered by injuries

and yeah thats good for his $$ negotiating power. (From our standpoint)

From today's Post:

Quote:
The Avalanche got more of an idea how long defenseman Jordan Leopold will be out of the lineup. And the answer is at least a month.

Avalanche communications director Jean Martineau said that would be the minimum Leopold would be out, but said the team hopes it is not much beyond that. The team said Leopold is suffering from a groin pull, unrelated to the sports hernia that kept him sidelined the first two months of the season.
Get well soon Leo...you'll be missed

I'm willing to wait a year for Leopold to get healthy and play consistently for a while before I say that. If that never happens yes I'd have to say CGY won. But let's hope Leopold eventually gets healthy. I think it's good news the injury is not related to the hernia injury (if that's true).

Thanks for the note, A - that info has been hard to find. I suspected that the lack of data coming back from the team meant that this is a serious injury.

By the way, I read your column a few weeks back, and you picked "Lick it up"? Dude, as an old die hard Kiss fan myself, one simply MUST pick a tune from Destroyer or Rock and Roll Over. :-)

I have you pegged as more of a "I Was Made For Loving You" type.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am not that encouraged by the (at least) one month estimate. Given this organization's tendency to under-inform and be vague, I think that the time table could mean just about anything that's over a month. Plus, we all know that these injuries are notoriously bad for skaters. We all remember Claude Lemieux's groin, right?

Too late for me. Think 100,000 Years, Black Diamond, Firehouse, God of Thunder, etc. I don't like much of anything Kiss put out after 1978 or so.

Wasn't that a stomach muscle tear?

Correct, it's not the same type of injury as Leopold.

I dunno about you guys, but losing Leopold at this point is a killer.

At least a month? That means he will be out at least 15 games. Oh boy.

This season is officially over, if Theodore doesn't turn into hart trophy goalie he once was. Other words: We need a miracle.

The Avs are 1 pt out of the 8th spot right now. What they need more than Theodore being a hart trophy goalie is some consistently solid play from the whole team. That wouldn't be a miracle. The team just has to buckle up and realize that is the only way to get into the playoffs.

When evaluating who won the tanguay trade we need to look retrospectively after Leo is (presumably) resigned. While it sucks that we don't have him for basically at least the first half of the season, it will give us more bargaining power at the negotiation table.

So with that in mind, you answer the question that yeah the flames won it. so far. In a few years this may be one of those trades that winds up being a winner for the avs (which is the exact opposite of all our other dealings with the flames )
