Carolina/Buffalo Proposal

To Buffalo: Brind'Amour, O'Neill, 2nd round pick
To Carolina: Brown, Satan, Afinogneov

Buffalo adds a little salary (around a 1 million) but drastically improves their offense and adds a physical forward to their top 6 and a veteran center to the fold.

New Lines:

Hecht-Briere-Dumont
Pyatt-Drury-O'Neill
Kotalik-Brind'Amour-Mair
Boulton-Taylor-Peters

The Canes get hosed.

O'Neill > Satan (considering the canes are getting a younger look to thier lineup. Keep the younger, cheaper, more physical player)

Brind'Amour 2nd round pick > Brown, Afinogneov

The Reasoning behind that statement is that with Captin Ron leaving in a year or two Rod is the vet leader the canes will need in thier lineup. Brown is a decent third liner but not anywhere near worth Rod IMO and Afinogenov may be worth more than a second at this point, but due to his year off because of a concussion I would hesitate to deal for him.

I like the deal. But, I think the money would be a deal breaker.

Agreed, very fair deal that helps shake up things for both teams. However, salary definitely could be a problem. And I'm not sure how moveable O'Neill is however.

I don't.

Jim Kelley has said more than once that he's talked with the front office people with the Sabres and they are saying that they are very happy with the payroll where it is currently at.

Originally Golisano and Quinn wanted the payroll this year to be $30 million.

It took starting the year at $33 million to get Drury and Satan signed prior to the season starting.

I'd be surprised if they added payroll this year. Unless it's a similiar figure at the deadline, so they are picking up a much smaller portion of the difference.

For some strange reason, i'm inclined to actually like this deal.

Cole -Vasicek- Satan
Vrbata -Staal- Afinogenov
Francis -Brown- Bayda
Adams -Adams- Murray

I'd like those lines a lot. Especially the scoring on those first two lines. The second line would be a beast in 2-3 years.

I like the deal as well though it sorta throws a monkey wrench in where Roy ends up playing unless Drury moves to wing. Not a huge deal but that's just something that's been in my mind in every trade proposal I see.

Jim Bob, I'm just guessing here but I think if the hockey department could convince Mr G that this deal improves the team and gives them a better chance at winning and making the playoffs, he could have his arm twisted into ponying up the dough. Just a hunch though.

Really like this proposal. I think Buffalo gets more veteran leadership and some grit. Carolina gets younger, and Staal with Satan or Afinogenov could be special.
