Doug dropped the bomb that the first round of the draft this year could be televised on Friday night. Made it sound like its basically a done deal but its nothing 'official' yet.
Okay...just re-listened to that part in the show that was in question.
Hooley asked Doug if Freddy Modin is signed for a year...Doug responds and says yes and that "I just talked to Freddy and his agent last night about that"... To me that is clearly Modin that he is referring to.
And guess what.. Doug's not going anywhere if this team keeps doing well, and he might even get some credit for the good job he has done building a team. Also, last I checked, I wasn't the last person on this board who likes the guy. There are a couple of guys, If I recall correctly, in DJ's thread about Doug's "weird" quote. But hey, who cares about that.
I'm with you, here. I like Doug, and I hope he's still around when the team makes the show. Look at Norrena, and all the praise we're giving him. I think it took a pair of big ones, on Doug's part, to make that deal. He's put this team together (granted, in all its incarnations), and has been integral in making this franchise a success off the ice.
I do think he allowed his ego to get in the way, from time to time. And I also think he's struggling now with the idea that another hockey insider is suddenly the face of the franchise.
That said, I'm hoping he can successfully step in to the shadows, letting Hitchcock coach.
Items I feel worth noting, in order of importance:
1. The draft on a Friday night would be an excellent event.
2. JacketFan and Aneitra Hamper and the trade was one of the funniest things I have seen on the board in a while.
3. CBJ21 - excellent post about your take on things.
4. Ar-Too is one well sourced gentleman. Or robot.
Darn it, I was so used to coming in here and using all sorts of stats as to how the team could get better.
And saying that confidence in their coach is a key factor.
Now all that has come about and I don't know what to talk about.
Umm.....anyone notice that there are a bunch of coincidences with the number 33 earlier in this thread? I noticed it.
Also, 33 is how old I was 2 years ago. And 2 is the number of wins in a row the Blue Jackets had before they won the last 3. And 3 plus 97 equals 100, which happens to be the strength of my Stealth hockey stick.
Well I assumed that this would happen. Doug had his pee pee smacked by management and is now pouting like a little kid who got his toys taken away and smashed by his older brother. He should be jumping up and down now with joy joy joy...but he is not...because he got put in his place and hates the fact this team is winning. Everybody in the hockey world saw what was going on...but Doug.
I hope they already told him he was done at the end of the year.
are you quoting Mr. Vyborny? I've heard him speak several times about how our pee pee got smacked around by other folks' pee kay. A terrible time in our history...
E-mailer wants to thank Agnew for a great job after Gallant and before Hitch....hey I like Agnew too but he freakin lost all five games.......come on.
I grew fairly fond of Ags during "interim" this season. I loved the look of disgust he wore on his face the last game against the Predlies... it was soooo..... apt.
I'm glad he's around and pleased that he and Hitch seem to work well together. This is a great time and opportunity for everyone with the team.

I liked his TV interviews and I like his intelligence.....but I did not like losing 5 of 5 games under his tenure regardless of the bizillion reasons why, one or two wins under him could be the difference in our playoff quest....

Don't blame Agnew for that. I think it is pretty clear that the team needed more coaching up than anyone in-house could do. The players were more "interim-esque" than anything.
And I have 2 3's in my username and wear 33 pants and have been falsely arrested 33 times without charges being brought and have a $33 fine at the library and 3+3 is 6 and 3 6's is the number of the beast and Iron Maiden rules so there you have it. Proof positive that JFK was a reincarnated Abraham Lincoln. I rest my case your honor.
