Scott Gomez...

Is there any way the Rangers can land Gomez as a free agent?? I think he plays center and if he does, he would fill the second line center void nicely.

I hope not, I don't want to have to root for him!

I see no reason why the NYR wouldn't have a chance to sign him, ditto for every other team. But in actuality, isn't a little early to start speculating about who will be centering this team next year? After all, this year's team has enough topics to discuss for days and weeks.

waay too early to start this thread. However knowing Jersey it would work out nicely for them. Travis Zajac would become the #2 centerman while Parise became the #1 center.

I'd rather have Briere

careful NOT to futz around w/ Gomer and his Dad while the other UFA get signed up.... only to see Gomez sign back w/ NJ

With the Cap going up next year I'd say any team has a chance at getting Gomez. Rangers supply a unique opportunity in that he wouldn't have to move. I'd say they have as good a chance as any team.

Gomez would be a better fit then Briere. Briere is a dirtbag. Gomez is a hardworker, would fit well on second line.

The free agent class for forwards is pretty thin last I checked. Headed up by Briere, Gomez, and Drury down the middle. Paul Kariya will be available on the wing, but after that you get into the Freddy Modin and Petr Sykora's of the world. There will be a lot of good defensemen potentially available however.

Parise looked lost last year at center and was moved to LW where he has played much better. Don't think he's taken a shift at center this year. His progression this year has been fantastic, but he might just be a better NHL winger than NHL center. Zajac has looked solid for a rookie. At the moment, neither guy could replace Gomez's puck rushing abilities next year IMO.

Drury is more the type of player I like. He's local product from Ct and would fit in nicely. Plus I think he would cost less than either Gomez or Briere.

Gomez can stay in New Jersey or move closer to home out west

gomez has always said he loves playing at msg...so IF he was to leave nj, i'd say its fair that we'd have as good a shot as anyone. but you could probably list 10 teams that could also 'possibly' sign him if he opts to test the market.

Please NO. Unless you want to substitute him for Nylander, this team does not need anymore soft top 6 players. That means keep Jags happy and go re-sign Nylander to NO more than 2 years, if he has a problem with that show him to his buddy Marty Straka who understands one year deals and then show him the door. No production is guaranteed.

My plan: Go out and with the intention of signing forwards Chris Drury and Scott Hartnell with Scott Hannan on D.

Datsyuk would be the perfect playmaking center that we would need to keep feeding the puck to Shanahan, not to mention that they have played well together before in the past.

I actually thought Shanahan and Datsyuk did not get along too well...

agreed, Drury would be a great, great addition..

anyone want to hazard a guess as to where he'd fit in to the current lineup?

Cant stand Gomez. I dont care how good he is, even if he grew a Forsberg out of his left leg and it had a stick of its own, it would be very difficult to root for him in a Rangers sweater.

On the second line with Shanny and Cullen/Prucha

i guarantee that you'd change your tune really quick when gomez was putting up 30 goals, 80 assists on the 2nd line between shanny and prucha...that 'hate' would turn to love real quick if he was playing for us and not the enemy

I'm hoping for Drury. I can understand Gomez. But Briere? How soft can we get if we sign him? Plus, wasn't he the one who couldn't take a hit and proceeded to elbow/punch a NYR in the head? NY does not need anymore primadonnas please...

What makes you guys think you can even afford him? Even if you can, dont you guys have some big ticket contracts to resign next season, and even the season after that (Jagr)?

When did Scott Gomez become so popular lately? First the Flyers HFboards, now the Rags?
