It is an interesting point, given that when the Oilers first won the cup, they were the first team since 75 to win without a French Canadian captain (Cournoyer and Potvin), never mind without any French Canadian players.
The Oilers seem to have done alright though (at least until normalcy was restored with Lemieux leading his team in 91 and 92).

Unless the definition of racism has been expanded, I don't think it was. TU, a fine young up and coming mod, kind of like a Chris Higgins of mods was joking that Doug Wilson had taken a little shot at the original post. I don't think the original poster meant that teams win more often if they can avoid French Canadian players nor did he thread starter really think Glen Sather was devoted to avoiding players from La Bell Province, though I can't be sure. Maybe some tongue in cheek comments ? Ya think you're being a tad hyper sensitive mon ami ?

I'm actually not aware of any French Canadians who've played for Montreal...are you sure about that?

Well seeing as I have yet to read a bad post on your part.
I take your word for it.

Although the way Doug Wilson wrote is post did not seem to be tongue in cheek as you say.

Seb, I think that anyone who has followed hockey, esp. as this is a history forum, knows the contributions that French Canadians have made in the NHL. Actually believing that not to be true would be like starting a thread about how poor a passer Gretzky was. [ Chooch, good idea ?] Now, I don't know DW very well and for all I know he was abducted as a youth by roving Quebec bands of gypsies and has held a Melrose like grudge, but I assume he's a guy of reasonable intelligence and was having some fun. Speaking for other posters always gets me in trouble but it's too late now.

Why! It's funny! Don't take that so seriously.

Like McPhee point out, nobody really beleive that Frenchies don't bring cups! We all know that it's the case with Ontarians, tho!

Of course, a square head doesn't work in an oval rink, wait I'm in Ontario, plus I'm an anglo.

Basically, you know nothing of the history of "The Chooch." Without this knowledge you cannot understand my reaction to the post.

You can roll your eyes at me all you want; until you understand the circumstances behind my response to rohan's (Doug Wilson's) post, you won't get it.

Don't let it go to your head... McPhee's been on the juice earlier in the day for the last couple of weeks.

I'd say you're more of the Andrei kostitsyn of Mods... promising, shows flashes of brilliance, overated by his home crowd, but overall, still unproven.

Kostitsyn? Really?

I think TU is more like the Kyle Wellwood of mods: crafty, adorable, completely hairless.

I'm still learning every day, even after over 3 months on the job.

I just spit my soda all over my monitor, and the problem is, it's my office, not my home compy!

In actuality, I have early 90's Jaromir Jagr hair. That's why they wanted me as a mod. The hair does all the moderating for me. My hair is like a gift from the hockey heavens.

Oh yeah, pick on the anglo, I take one shot at your homeland and I get picketed.

The marbles line's pretty good though.

So, how does one go about finding out that Kyle Wellwood is completely hairless ? I have no reason to want to know, just curious. Does hockey db have goals, assists, naked picture now ?

Back on subject:

I've been to Lachute recently. Those guys speak with such a heavy accent it shouldn't be considered french at all.

This is why Kevin Lowe doesn't count.

Kevin Lowe is a Quebecer not a French Canadian .
