Maybe HF02 who follows the Ducks can help to fill us in on this guy... but I am not impressed. Feaster seriously gets tarred and feathered in every trade he ever makes.

O'Brien is the real deal, a very good young blueliner. Somehow surprised this season, as he's already got a lot of points for a guy who no one knew if he'd stick this season or just get a cup of coffee...
Not sure if Coleman is worth anything, and a first rounder isn't a sure thing either. O'Brien pretty much is a sure thing.

Thats the only positive I can see with this trade.
Coleman was never going to be a part of the Lightning's plans and a first round is at best a toss up with Feaster drafting.

I'm not sure if he's 1st rounder worthy, but I like O'Brien. He has the look of becoming a solid, top 4 dman who plays with an edge. He's alright on the PP, has a good shot. I'd like the deal better if the 1st weren't going back. Although since Coleman really had no future it's a 1st for O'Brien and a 3rd. The good thing is that O'Brien is NHL ready unlike some other young prospects in the org. I was hoping for a better defenseman with the 1st, but I think O'Brien is going to do ok here. Some of you who have been wanting a more physical player on the blueline will be happy with him. Overpaid, but I think it could have been worse.
I don't follow the west all that much so I have no clue who this kid is...
Shane O'brien is an old school defensemen who plays kinda like a poor man Bryan McCabe. He is a character player who can skate well for his size. He can shoot the puck pretty well and plays on the second pp unit for the Ducks. And then if you mess around, O'brien can drop the gloves and stick up for his teammates. I know Burke probably hated making this trade but he needed a first round pick for Tuesday's deadline. Fear not Lightning fans, you guys are getting a pretty good young player.

well, I have stayed away from my TB friends as I've been sort of considered a wild poster by some of you.
but, i've been keeping my eyes on the weather.... and the storm has been brewing.
from my vantage point.... Feaster stole this guy!
he's a team player that will definitely protect the stars and plays a solid defensive game
plus, he's a RFA with a CHEAP salary... and that is KEY.
I'm very very happy. a 1st was a price, but in my opinion.... is what had to be paid. i'm sure a couple GM's are scratching their heads... cause they'd love to have this guy and would probably have paid this price in hindsight. i think feaster just pulled a fast one.
Is it possible Feaster still has another move in mind? We have, by my count, one dman to many.
Maybe the plan is to cut Richardson and carry 7 dmen for the duration. I really don't have a problem with O'Brien. I've watched him alot this year. He's everything everyone else has said here. I think it also may have been a move made because I think it's doubtful that Sarich resigns after the season. O'brien is a nice pickup IMO and I don't have a problem with the first going the other way. If we were lower (bottom 3rd) in the standings I might but right now I don't think the 1st will amount to much. This is a good (not great) deal for us.
Now that I have had time to think about it I am warming up to this deal. I think I would have liked this deal more than say giving up a first for Brewer and having him leave as a UFA 7 months later.
Coleman is a wash, he was not going to do anything with the Lightning with him buried behind Boutin, Ramo, Helenius soon and possibly Koshechkin.
The deal is basically a first for O'Brien and a 3rd which makes O'Brien's vaule close to a 2nd round pick. If Ryan Munce is worth a 4th and George Parros is worth is worth a 2nd then O'Brien is well worth a 2nd.
This deal also frees up one of Sarich/Pratt/whoever to be packaged with picks or Boutin to get us some forward depth as we still have room under the cap.
I'm very happy now that I've researched him a bit. He looks like a good guy to stand up for his teammates and a decent defenseman. 140 PIMs, 12 fights. Who do we scratch or send down? Pratt?

I'm kinda doubting Pratt/Sarich get spit up right now. Sarich could be moved now if the deal is right but I'm not sold on it just yet. What pisses me off is Carter going to Carolina for a 5th. I would have loved to have him and that was cheap as hell. I think we will be plaesed with O'Brien though, I really do.
O'Brien is expected to arrive in Tampa on Sunday, but likely will not play when the Lightning face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins. To make room on the roster for O'Brien, center Andreas Karlsson was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Feb. 23. Karlsson is expected to miss 10-14 days with a lacerated tendon in his left index finger.
Feaster said he is not necessarily done dealing and is looking for some help on Tampa Bay's third and fourth lines.

Sarich to Phoenix for bag of old Winnipeg Jets pucks?
