Appreciate all of your hard work on this thread Loudmouth. If MacT could ever coax this team to the fifth seed position he would more than earn his paycheque and I hope the respect of Oiler fans. I'm less optimistic about their upside but do see some positive signs even during this recent tailspin.

I don't think it's a talent problem, it's just that they're so damn young. Lowe's done a good job procuring talent for post cba, but it might be a bugger getting through this season. He has to walk a fine line, keep enough talent on the team, while paying out 30 mil, with an eye to the future.

If you're asking me if Lowe miscalculated, then yes, in some instances he did (Isbister should rhyme with albatross).

If you're asking me if I wish Niinimaa was back here, the answer is no.

As talented as Niinimaa is, and I love the guy, Raffi Torres looks like pure gold to me.
Agree with you LT. The problem is not the talent, its the experience. With such young teams, they are more highs and lows than a level consistent performance. We have a rookie goaltender, our top goal scorer is a rookie (Torres) and our PP specialist (Bergeron) is also a rookie. We don't have a #1 centre... yet. But Stoll has been playing outstanding. I do remember poo-poohing Stoll's predicted contribution to the team at the start of the season but he's proven me wrong so far. Combined with Reasoner's injury, Comrie's holdout and Salo's play/injury, I'm surprised the Oilers are still in the hunt.

LMHF, firstly I totally respect your opinion. All of us Oiler posters are here posting madly because we love our team with a passion. And I'm totally with you on the talent and potential of this team. I sometimes sigh and shake my head and what-could-have-been's if Comrie was a little less thickheaded and he had been with us from the start of preseason. I just think that with so many youngsters in the lineup the Oilers are going to have a very unpredictable season with losing streaks and choppy performances.

Wow. True top two lines for the Oilers. I haven't heard of that for a long long time.

Smyth - Comrie - Hemsky
Torres - York - Dvorak
Moreau - Reasoner - Pisani
Isbister - Stoll - Laraques

Torres - York - Dvorak
Moreau - Smyth - Pisani
Chimera - Stoll - Hemsky
Isbister - Horcoff - Laraques
(I'm not sure where Oates will be playing next)
