Now a Flyer. Isles traded him for Randy Robitaille and Fifth.

Nice salary dump by Snow saved 2 million on this deal and 3 on the Zhitnik deal I expect some type of deal after the freeze is over. Look to bring in another legit scorer. Time will tell.

Wow. Robitaille and a 5th?

He certainly fell off on the Island.

Freeze probably started at 12:00 AM 12/20, and the deal was completed before that, probably late at night on 12/19 and just announced today.

Isles obviously clear up another chunk of cap space, so this seems to be a pretty good deal for them if they can use the extra $ to bring in a player who will contribute whatever they feel they weren't getting from York.

"Dec. 19-27
Holiday roster freeze, with respect to waivers, trades and other player assignments."

i see that explanation on alot of NHL calendars.

Why the hell is called a roster freeze for then?

Yeah, but you'll wind up moving youth for the scorer. Say goodbye to some decent prospects.

The trade was completed last night before the midnight deadline.A team could have placed a player on waivers yesterday and the same player would be eligible for claim today

Quote:
13.15 Holiday Roster Freeze. For all Players on an NHL Active Roster, Injured Reserve, or Players with Non-Roster and Injured Non-Roster status as of midnight local time December 19, a roster freeze shall apply through midnight local time December 27,with respect to Waivers, Trades and Loans; provided, however, that Players may be Recalled to NHL Clubs during this period and, provided further, that if a Player is placed on Regular Waivers or Re-EntryWaivers prior to the roster freeze period and is claimed during such roster freeze period, the roster freeze period shall not apply and the Player shall immediately report to the claiming Club. However, during the roster freeze period a Club can make any Player transactions necessary for the Club to come into compliance with Article 50 as a result of a Player being removed from the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception.

I wonder if the Islanders aren't just dumping salary to save money.Their attendance is down.Commander Wang claims the Islanders lose money. If the fans aren't going to support the team, ownership will slash the payroll. As long as the Islanders spend above the floor, they are in compliance with the cap

If the fans don't like it, make it less appealing? That's quite a strategy.

Wang has proven his hockey savvy! How dare you question his masterful roster prowess.

man! Actually I thought this was a weird trade but turns out while Robitaille at 5-12-17 -4 is surprisingly doing better than York 6-7-13, -9. Nostalgia would dictate York be a perfect 2nd line center fit but Hossa and a 5th would not have gotten that deal done. Still, surprised to see an intradivision trade. Those don't come often!

So despite all the love, this is now his 4th team in 6 years?

Thought the same, Edge...

although I do believe he's a great role player. He's a third liner, who can kill penalties. If a second line winger or center goes down, he can fill-in on a short-term basis and not look out of place. Perfect utility guy if you use him correctly and your expectations are in check. I'd take him over a few of this team's third and fourth liners.

He seems to fit in well with the "guys that have played on a line with Lindros" group, if you ask me.

I'm not going to get into his current value or potential impact on our roster, but damn it sucks that one my favortie Rangers during his stint here will have the Islanders and Flyers on his resume. It was hard enough wearing his jersey when he went to the Isle...

unfortunate for york.. he's a guy that could've been at a grave's type status had he not been traded

ok maybe not so high, but definitely a player that is much more appreciated than he has been

probably the one trade i disliked the most of all the sather moves.. (i hope i did not just jinx that)

Mugerya...

it's only a matter of time before he's a Devil. He's exactly the type of player they like to have.

We'll see what happens. How do you know they're not going to trade a vet dman for a vet forward. Why do you think a kid is going. If a kid does go gotta se what comes back. Can't worry about it till we see what happens.

Snow deserves executive of the year for clearing up that much cap room in the matter of a week. York has not been a good player for a few years now. We get a guy with more speed, better on draws, better offensive numbers and a better +/- while playing for a crap team in Philly. Save about 2 million bucks and grab another draft pick. Holmgren has gone off his friggin nut if you ask me.

So would I. He has more goals than Hossa, Hollweg and Betts combined.

I'd take him over Matt Cullen too. York's two years younger, has played approx 150 less games in his career and has more points than Cullen.

I definitely wouldn't mind if the Sather picked him up in the summer as a UFA, hopefully his value will drop since he's having a below average season.
