Would you have...(fun)

Alright, supposing that it's November of 2005 or August of 2006, and you get a call from the GM of Boston\Edmonton. It seems that Joe Thornton\Chris Pronger is available, and if you are willing to offer the following packages, you can get one of these players.

This is based on my interpretation of what would have been an equal package, and doesn't include any implied picks that ended up changing hands:

to Boston
Martin Erat(Marco Sturm)
Dan Hamhuis(Brad Stuart)
Vernon Fiddler(Wayne Primeau)

to Nashville

Joe Thornton

or...

to Edmonton
Scott Hartnell(Joffrey Lupul)
Cody Franson(Ladislav Smid)

to Nashville

Chris Pronger

thoughts? Do you do one of these deals? Both? Neither? Why? Why not?

At first glance, I'd do both. IMO, the only player getting moved that really hurts is Hamhuis, but...come on, you get Thornton and Pronger.

Both (but only if Pronger got braces to close that annoying gap in his teeth).

Hell Yeah ... that would mean we'd have Ryan Parent ... and wouldn't have to make the trade for Forsberg

I would easily make both trades. Its a shame that Thornton was basically handed to the Sharks for free because without him, I seriously doubt the Sharks eliminate us two times in a row .....

Of course, you must realize that Anaheim gave up a first in 07, and a conditional 08 first (which I believe is a second rounder unless Anaheim wins the cup?)

I bet the Bruins would love to have had Erat and Hamhuis over the package they received.......almost all of which is gone (save for Sturm).

The 2nd rounder in '08 was guaranteed, and the 2nd first comes into effect if the Ducks make the SCF. The Ducks gave up:

Lupul
Smid
'07 1st
'08 2nd
conditional '08 1st.

I would do the Thornton deal. It would be painful seeing Hamhuis and Erat go the other way as I think they're both good players, but Thornton would have been great for us.

I wouldn't do both however. While I think Pronger is a fantastic talent, I'd rather get two really solid guys and have more depth.
