Okay now that Spacek is okay I've cooled off a little, but man the Sabres have had bad luck with injured defensemen and something like that just makes me cringe.

Regardless if that was not as bad as Bertuzzi that doesn't mean it should not go unpunished. That was ugly and does not belong in the league. Class by Ruff to not send Peters out there to mug someone and just put two more on the board. That was cowardly and gutless.

That was very dirty. I could see engaging Spacek and even throwing punches if Spacek doesnt want to go, but to drop the glove and deck somebody from a complete blind side is dirty and cowardly.

And it was funny Terry Crisp began to accuse Spacek of pretending to not know Nichol was coming. Cmon, youd think he would flinch or raise his arms up.

Well regardless, the postgame show said Spacek was 'OK', so that makes me less upset about this.

I wish Nichol would have went toe to toe instead of sucker punching him, but I don't feel bad for Spacek, that's what happens when you cheap shot someone, you get it back.

You don't throw punches from the blind side - its crap. It was dangerous, and uncalled for - Nichol just doesn't have any self control. I've never liked him very much, now, I can honestly say I wish he'd get a nice long suspension.

interesting to see trotz's take on this, given nichol's golden boy status.

So much for that defensive western conference we all hear about in the east. This was an eastern conf. style game. Nashville is a much better team than they looked tonight, although that Nichol business made me sick. What a garbage move by Nichol, that'll cost him some games.

I'm not going to deny any of that. However, Spacek's play was cheap too, just not on the level that Nichol responded with.

I guess he was worn out from scoring 2 goals in the 2-1 Preds victory in Chicago last night.

My collection of random thoughts:

Buffalo's speed and scoring are as advertised.

Their defense didn't look as strong in person as on the tube, albeit they have injuries and tend to, like the Preds, rely in part on the strong last line of defense.

If we want a shot at the big prize, we need a #1-2 d-man that can bump everyone down a slot and Zanon out of the lineup. I also think our crop of centermen is short by one playmaker.

Resisting the urge to troll on the Sabres board, I will say that Spacek's stick between the feet and twist move near the net is in the top 3 of dangerous plays in the league. To do that and turn your back on the guy tells me you don't have the balls to own up to it. That being said, you can't sucker punch another player ever. I'd give Spacek one game and Nicolls 3-5. And no it is nothing like the Bertuzzi incident.

The Preds looked tired and lifeless to start and in that painful 2nd and the defense looked slow. I can only imagine how slow a slow defense looks against the sabres.

There was a nice turnout of Sabres fans-- good for them-- and almost all were well behaved (one punk on the concourse making fun of the kids 2 on 2 nurf hockey setup....please.... and one guy escorted out by the police near center ice). 8-10 in my section that showed up to enjoy the game and, unlike Red Wings fans, didn't assume all Pred fans were morons. Kudos.

We got whipped. It wasn't any fun. It's only one game. I hope our guys learn from it.

Let's hope that is the case.

I agree what Spacek did was dirty, and I was pleading at the TV for a penalty. But, like I said, Nichol didn't go about it the right way. And was more foolish than Spacek for having done so. Hockey has a system set up to where these things can be taken care of. Face the man, so he knows punishment is coming, and then if he doesn't want to go, hit his face. Something so small can make such a huge difference in the eyes of the public, other players, etc.

Which makes no sense at all. The problem with NHL disciplinary policy is that they only hand out punishment if somebody gets hurt.

Cheap shot? They were going hard to the net, Spacek tied up his stick and drove him into the net with momentum. 2 minute interference penalty... which was called. That doesn't grant the crap that Nichol did.

I was hoping to see a better game last night but it's understandable the Preds are on the 2nd of a back to back, coming from a road game.

I really liked what the Preds have done with their franchise. They have developed some players ands injected some good free agent signings. I was sad to see Dumont go in free agency but was kind of glad that he signed with a good team in the West (can't have him antagonizing us here in the East). What do you guys think of him?

Well good luck on the rest of your season, and maybe we'll see each other in the Cup Finals...

Oh one other thing I noticed, your crowd seemed pretty loud and vocal at times (more so than the New Jersey game I watched), how full was the arena, I was too busy watching the game to notice the size of the crowd on TV. I am glad to see the sport catching on there...

Thanks, I believe the announced attendance was 16,600+ (17,113 is a sell out here). Not bad for a weeknight here.

I hate the "college" cheap beer night as well. It brings out the annoying drunk behaviour that was rampant in the arena last night. I saw ugliness from both sides last night -- Buffalo & Nashville fans acting ridiculous.

Oh well, hoping for a better performance on Saturday night against the Kings!

I'm not sure who said the Buffalo fans were behaved......It was actually probably the worst behavior out of any fans, save for the BLues, that I have seen in Nashville. I saw at least 10 Buffalo fans turn around and taunt Predator fans, hand gestures, as well as continued gloating such as acting like they were "spanking" us, etc. Very poor behavior....I'm surprised a fight didn't break out honestly.

As for Spacek, he road Nichol into the goal post, after the play was practically over, and acted like he did nothing. The play was extremely dirty. He deserved to get retribution. That said, what Nichol did was totally wrong, and I hope the league acts accordingly. Sucker-punch's can never be justified...

Mason was awful last night. Our defense went back to the, give them all the space they need and flail your sticks at them, technique that gets us burned every time.

We have to be more aggressive when teams enter the defensive zone. We have to play the body on guys like Afinogenov.........

I don't want to scare anybody here as I wasn't able to see this game, so my opinion is based on the games I've seen over the past few weeks, but in my opinion it seems like the Preds haven't outplayed AND defeated a good hockey team in almost a month.

In this one-month stretch we've looked a lot like the Predators that started the season last year. We are beating up on bad teams (STL, LA, Philly) and getting getting great goaltending to bail us out against the good teams. In fact, I'd argue that we've had more quality victories in the first month of the season than we've had since.

I thought we were a pretty damned good hockey team that won in spite of our schedule in the first month and a half of the season. Since then, like last year, I think we've benefitted in a major way by a very weak schedule.

It's hardly time to panic, but we do need to step it up. Maybe this game was a wakeup call that exposed some of our issues? It's been easy to turn your head on our faults to this point, but as with most teams, there are areas that need major attention if we are to compete in the playoffs.
