Kevin Weekes

What is the deal with this guy?? I think its safe to say we get atleast one point out the NYI and FLA losses if He isnt in there. Your thoughts on what should become of a guy we signed last year to be our number 1 goalie.

I HATE WEEKES. ive seen enough of Mr. Kevin Weekes, hes a backup and he should stay that way for most of the year. I dont know what would have happened if King Henrik was well not a King. The Rangers would have been screwed with Weekes as a starting goalie. He needs to leave now. Is he a UFA at the end of this season?

I say we get 2 points tonight if Pock, Tyutin, Ward and Rozsival are playing fundamental defense instead of chasing Panthers all over the zone.

I'd love to hear suggestions on whom should be the backup from the anti-Weekes crowd.

They would probably say Al Montoya, even though he is nothing this year like he was last season.

But the problem with Weekes is his inconsistancy. He could be playing great one second then terrible the next.

Actually, we get two points if the PP is at all productive.

no problems with Weeks tonight. The islanders game though, he gave up 2 softies in that one.

Weeks gets ripped entirely too much. For a backup goalie he is at least one of the better ones. How do you blame some of those goals on him. First there is a man in front with no one on him. Then you have 3 shots in 20 seconds all of which should not have even happened. I agree he should not have let in the wrist shot but he can't stop everything.

Back up goalies are not supposed to play 3 games in a row. He was put into a position that did not allow him to play to the best of his abilities. He should be playing at most, 1 game a week, or on the back ends of back to back games.

Granted, he was signed to be a #1 goalie, but that's another argument for another day.

Valiquette's stats from Hartford:
17 games, 10 W 6 L, 2 SO, GAA 2.29, S%.916

Anyone interested in giving him a shot over Weekes?

Well his raw ability is good enough to be a journeyman starter, but he's just never sustained good play. It can't be a matter of effort; he just seems to lack the focus of most starting goaltenders. Weekes is an on or off guy. He'll get a 3-5 game burst of momentum where he's spectacular and then he loses focus for another 10 games.

Weekes is no better then mike dunham was with his inconsistent play, i believe it was ken dryden who said in his book "its not how many saves you make in a game its when you make them." Weekes has not come through; we mine as well have kept jamie mclennan. im sick and tired of people sticking up for him when he has no ability to make big saves (when they matter the most). We need another glenn healy who could come in and play solid when called upon and win games.

Weekes is a good backup, he's up and down yes, but when we actually support him with good D, he wins games for us. Let's us also not forget how he helped turn around this team on the Pacific road trip. He does have a rebound control issue, but again with good D this isn't really an issue. I don't understand anyone hating him though, he's a good backup.

Not really, the AHL is not the NHL. Valiquette and Montoya are down there because they need to be.

Valiquette is a big guy who when he's positioned right and anticipates well, has a lot of stuff hit him. He's also a guy with bad lateral movement and a suspect 5-hole. There's a reason he's never seriously been even a backup goalie at the NHL level.

Weekes is not Roy,Hasek,Broduer,Lundqvist,Miller,Toskala,Kipper etc. I dont know what people expect from this guy. People always throw out the comment of "one big save", well how about "one good defensive play" by the defensemen. They know better than anyone, or atleast should know what style Kevin plays. So if he leaves juicy rebounds then its their job to clear the net. Weekes has flaws, yes, he isnt the best goalie in the world, yes, but I think he is a decent back up and no more. I dont get why expectations are so high for the guy. If this was last season and he was signed as the #1 and Henke never came along then ok I can understand the view point of saying he sucks and being worried about the goaltending on the team. But he is only going to play what like 20 games of which he is 4-5-1 or something so far, that isnt terrible for a back up IMO atleast. When he wins two games back to back everyone will be saying how he is improving his game and show support for him, but let him get one loss after that he is ready to be brought out to pasture, I dont get it. I understand the fustration with the loosing streak because I feel it too but I think that Weekes is just the scape goat right now.

Weekes is a solid backup. Backup goalies are what they are... thats why they aren't starters. He tends to make some big saves on tough shots but lets too many softies in. I'm not the biggest Weekes fan, but he's not our starter. There really aren't any better options available... If there are and I overlooked someone, who would realistically you rather have?

The problems with this team go much deeper than our backup goaltender.
