Id give Carter for...

Geoff Sanderson. Really liked when this guy was here, and I think he would have been a better pick up then Carter. Thoughts

Carter: http://www.nhlpa.com/WebStats/Player...phy.asp?ID=884
Sanderson: http://www.nhlpa.com/WebStats/Player...hy.asp?ID=4949

Not to mention save 1M.

Pretty sure Sanderson burned his bridges with Columbus when he was traded to Phoenix. There were rumblings of him being a cancer in the dressing room and requesting the trade. I think he had enough of the organization after the "Sanderson for Sanderson and a 3rd" sideshow with Vancouver.

I like the guy and love what he did in his time here, but it was best for both parties for him to move on.

I believe he still owns a house here and wants to come back.

Pass.

Sanderson is useless if he isn't on a top 2 lines. And I don't see him getting that here.

Carter has a one year contract. As much as I like him, he's not coming back. I'd rather have the 3 million in cap room next year.

After his playing days are over, maybe. But not to play hockey here.

Why do we have to trade him? He'll probably be gone at the end of the year, anyway, since he'll be an unrestricted free agent.

If somebody wanted him at the trade deadline, I'd take a draft pick for him.

Honestly, I'd rather have Carter. I actually like his game, which I guess is the minority opinion on this board.

Well, I guess I can live with that. To me he just seems like he has no motion towards the game doesnt really seem to work hard. Typically Jacket I know.

I liked Sanderson, and no doubt he's a bargain at 1M, but I seriously doubt he'd make his way back here.

Personally, if Carter would go down to 2-2.25 mil, I'd say we should resign him. However, I doubt thats the case.

Here are some possibly UFAs

Handzus-not likley, but would love him
Smolinski-an Ohio boy, a deffenite possibility.
Holmstrom-Probobly would never leave Detroit, but is someone who will crash the net.
Hartnall-probobly out of our price range, but would love to have him.
Blake-would love him too, even without Dean Blias
Fedetenko-we've had good luck with ex-Tampa players before.

probobly not going to happen, but would love it if it did.

I think the most likley Carter scinerio is his 3 mil being used to resign Modin, Norrena, and Eriksson. His spot would then be given to Picard/Brassard/Platt.

As much as I like Platt I dont think hes going to make it to full time NHL.

I think Brassard will get a shot early next season and if he does well he will stick. Was really hoping he would this year, he had to get hurt.

I think you're right, but if I remember correctly it's been up for sale for a WHILE. I know some people who lived two doors down from him, in south Upper Arlington (won't say the street name but it ended with "irkshire"). Gotta love the housing market... I wouldn't read too much into it.

Good post Stach.. I like all the names you've listed. Also remember that we are free of Berard's 2.5 mill as well at the end of the season. If we can't resign Modin I could see the org looking to make a big splash and going after a guy like Drury/Briere/Gomez... The more I watch a team like Detroit the more I think we need a good puck moving defensemen like a Schneider but I don't really see any of those on the market next year. So another center like the aforementioned would also be a big help next year. I think we have the wings

Disagree on the Picard as trade bait though... If I were to pick a former first rounder that may get dealt in the near future it would be Z. Not saying I want him to go anywhere but that is my hunch. I know Horton was struggling a bit for Florida -- a Horton for Z swap would certainly interest me and is the kind of trade I'm talking about as an example.

Its hard not to love Z when he does stuff like the Chicago game last year, but when he stinks he stinks bad.

I could not understand why we got back Sandy the second time and i would have been even more puzzled if it happened a 3rd time.

Just for the record:
Carter is tied in second in points total(12) with Nash and Vyb since Hitch took over last 13 games and considering the other 3 (Fed, Vyb and Nash) is playing alot together thats not bad.

Carter Love is never wrong.
He's the kind of player who will do well when those around him are doing well.

Had Carter not found a niche playing with Chim-Dog and Parma, I'd say ship him out for nothing.

However, I love the fact he has a defined role on the team, and I think for the duration of the season, we are better off with him. Next year, I'd like to see his contract money spent elsewhere, with Picard taking his spot with Fritsche and Chimmer.

Modin needs to be resigned for sure.

Steve Heinze played well when he was here too and he'd be cheaper than Carter. Why don't we go for him?

The only ex-Jacket forward I would welcome back here is Ray Whitney. Don't see that happening either though.

Spacek. I know we are talking about forwards but I miss Space K.

I can't completely remember why we even got rid of Whitney, I remember it was something like it was either him or Sanderson and I cried a little when they picked to keep Sandy.

I'd welcome Spacek back too.

Re: Whitney, it was a Whitney or Sanderson decision. I preferred Whit, but liked Sandy too so I wasn't too upset with the move at that time. Of course then Sandy started skating around with a gigantic fork in his back.
