Guess who is on a 46 goal pace?

Glen Murray ....so much for being nothing more than a pilot fish to Joe Thornton. Murray has been better this year than anytime riding shotgun to Thornton when his game resembled a rod hockey winger.

I like to pick out a player or two at each game to watch (usually the best player on the opposition and a Bruin) and Murray for a guy who is not the most graceful skater impressed me both with his defensive coverage and offensive positioning. I had been brainwashed from Meister, Bru37, many others who had me convinced Murray must go and just is not equiped for the NEW NHL. Murray I always have liked but not loved and was ripped when he came back for Allison (I still do hate the deal even though Allison has played in the NHL as much this year as me, and Murray is probably twice the player he is 'now'. Allison was a very good player at the time and gave Bruins a dominant top two centers at the time that I'd still take October 2001 over Savard and Bergeron now; but I am digressing)

Do I think Murray will get 46? no way. Heck, I'd take 35 and his steady play. I watched him the last 4 or 5 games I went to because of an argument I had with a friend and all I could do was wonder what he does wrong. He did have a pretty bad game against the Devils as the quicker wingers made the Bruins including him look like he was stuck in sand; however, the next game against Devils 5 days later he looked very good.

If Chia had traded Murray for a goalie this team would have been screwed. No way any goalie on the planet could be that much better than what Thomas has done. Thomas has been fantastic again- not perfect (that is reserved for a few people I work with and some who post here) but he gets an A from me and has covered up alot of mistakes this team has made.

Some say trade Murray this offseason but if Sturm leaves and Boyes does show he is a 70 point player the Bruins would be nuts if Murray continues even close to his early season performance. (I probably just jinxed him but as of today he is vying with Thomas, Chara, Savard, and Bergeron for top players for season)

Murray looked very good in training camp and has been solid every game this year. He's quietly having a great year. Good job, Muzz!

Savard and Bergeron are no way in Thornton and Allison's class in 2000-2001 and this coming from someone who loves the current Bruins duo.

It's not so much his goal pace that has impressed me...he is staying out of the box and not taking stupid lazy penalties like he did last year. He has been a pleasant surprise but I would still look to trade him in the off season and hopefully he DOES net 40+ to up that value.

Anyway...anyone got a fork for this delicious crow?

We can not trade Muzz unless we get a decent wing in return period. If we were to trade him for a goalie we would be screwed. Hes the only really good sniper on this team. His shot is a lazer beam when he hits the net. Muzz could score 60 goals and there would still probably be people on here who want to trade him. Obviously by the way he is playing he is showing that he doesn't want to be traded and he wants to stay in Boston.

Dan, I am not sure I agree with you. I think the current duo are far more well rounded and do a lot of things the other guys didnt do.

Murray was my suggestion for Captain, and I think he'd make a fine, vet capo.

Not that I'm unhappy with the current choice.

Almost the whole team was pouting last season, cos the team was being managed and coached so poorly that they had no chance to win. Players hate that cos it eventually costs them on the resume, and in the pocketbook.

This season he is showing he's worth every penny, and when the cap goes up next season -- maybe even a bargain.

Murray has been great so far this year I hope he keeps it up. He has also been very clutch scoring some big GW in OT. Also I think Bergeron Savard are better than the Allison Thronton duo.

He cannot be traded now for the reason of dumping salary. Too bad for the teams that didn't come calling before.
I have started to like him again. He reminds me so much of Patrick Poulin at times that I cringe. That is in stature only of coarse.

Were you not begging for Murray to be waived or bought out at the start of the year?

Oh, really? You might want to reconsider that statement.

2000-2001
Thornton 37-34-71 -4
Allison 36-59-95 -8

2006-2007 (To Date)
Bergeron 11-27-38 -2
Savard 11-32-43 +3

2006-2007 (Projected at current pace)
Bergeron 28-69-97 -5
Savard 28-82-110 +8

Anyone notice that if he were to continue this until he reached 60 games he would have the same # of points as last season, just more goals.

You have to consider also that in 2000 - 2001 teams' defensemen were allowed to hit and play defense, and the trap was at it's height of usage. I would hazard a guess that points in 2000 - 2001 were a little harder to come by than in the current watered down version of the NHL.

sounds like I am slamming Bergeron and Savard and I love them (hockey sense) but Thornton and Allison were playing in different game (better game if you ask me)....maybe I'm thinking back to my youth of 2000 and the thoughts of Allison, Guerin, Samsonov, and Thornton looking like something special (wow, in music speak they would be Guns & Roses)

On pace for 46 goals as an UFA and that player's agent would be looking at opening offers in excess of $5million per year. Murray still in his early 30's ( and appears to keep himself in top condition) has several more productive years ahead and if he may well show that his current deal was a very good one for the Bruins.

I'll admit that when I was calling for Murray to be traded for a sack of puck at the start of the year that I was wrong.

Of course, I think most of his success is having Savard as a center, but Murray can find the net and has been doing seemingly everything(backchecking, defense, avoiding penalties) since the whole team was terrible in October. Once they bought into Lewis' system, they took off.

It was terrible in 00-01, but for different reasons. The clutching and grabbing trap style of play had slowed the game down.

While I like the open ice now, the ridiculous continual penalties and special teams play is slowing the flow of the game.

I'd be happy if they could get back to the late 80s style of play. Best of both worlds.
