So What Coaches are Available?

I've been a big fan of Renny, but alas even I am puzzled by his moves, non moves and inability to fire this team up.

Is the end near? Who's realisticly available and a good fit?

For better or worse, I seriously doubt that changing coaches is even a slim possibility--there's no one out there who Sather might feel comfortable with.

The really sad thing is that Renney is by far the best coach Sather has hired during his tenure here.

Andy Murray. However, he got the St.Louis job last week. Pat Quinn is the only guy I can think of that Sather WOULD hire. I don't think most people here would be happy with him. I think we should forget Pat Burns. Sather didn't even bother calling him for an interview when Trottier was hired. Plus I don't see Burns leaving the Devils organization for the Rangers among other issues. Bowman has pretty much retired. Keenan could be fun but could be an absolute disaster with this particular team. I can't think of anyone else with a reputation out there.

As much as I hate to admit it, I'd wager Renney still has one and one half more seasons left with the NYR. Basically, we can (will) tank this year & miss the dance, because lets face it, that is the Ranger way. Renney will be given next season to redeem himself. Of course, you know how that will play out, then we'll have our new coach for the '08 - '09 campaign. Sadly, the new coach will inherit our by then ruined youngsters. Protocol says our organization then trades what remnants of young talent we have left (not much) for a few big-name-over-the-hill-vets to carry the Ranger torch of non-playoff hockey for years to come.

[Nostradamus]During the 2011 - 2012 season, another 'black fly' lands in the storied NYR clam chowder with the Rangers once again surprising the league by making another (very brief) playoff appearance. Henrik has 3 shutouts against us & Prucha nets 3 game winning goals. Sather will still be up in the press box, but no one has actually seen him in years due to all the smoke coming from those ginormous stogies. Rinse and repeat in 2018 where the Rangers are outscored 22 - 3 in the first round by the Kitchener/Waterloo Penguins.[/Nostradamus]

Of all the people, I feel really bad for poor old Lou Lamoriello. He's been eating our lunches for so many years, but now he's gonna have to share with Teddy Nolan.

All is not lost. Be happy.

What do you call a good job?His main job is developing young players.Where are they? They seem to all be having issues. He seems more concerned with reaching .500 than developing the players.Al Montoya needs to play more over the 30 year old journeyman goalie

Schoenfeld is not a better than Renney.Schoenfeld will have the Rangers dumping the puck at every opportunity. That will work really well with the Rangers skilled players

Dumping the puck more often may actually lead to some offence because as it stands right now our skilled players are not getting the job done when they are muscled off the puck and are confronted whenever they attempt to enter the zone.

I'm personally not a believer that the puck possession game that Jagr's line likes to employ is sound strategy. More often than not there's more passing going on than anything else and folks forget to shoot the puck.

Have they produced? Yes they have, but imagine how much more they would have prodiced in they shot a bit more.

As for dumping and chasing, it pins the other team in their zone, it also allows for a team to forecheck agressively and be physical with the other teams defenceman forcing mistakes. The fact that we have a pansyassed team doesn't bode well for that type of game.

I think that we should start to change the make-up of the team and say good bye to the Trio of Nylander - Jagr - Straka and get more north south players in the line-up.

Can't express enough how poorly constructed this team is and if I had my druthers, I'd be looking to populate my team with a more Western Canadian flavor for the top line as opposed to the European flavor that we are employing now.

But that's just my opinion

Schoenfeld had a chance to coach the rangers a few years ago and he declined.

Yeah....because advancing the puck by passing it backwards is producing such wonderfull results.

If Shoenfeld was so great, why is he now coaching a cellar team of the AHL and not the Blue Jackets or something?

And dumping the puck wouldnt work because this team loses so many battles in the corner its not even funny.

He could have had the Rangers job, had he wanted it.

Yes, but apparently the status quo is not working, now is it?

Even though most of us are crying for Renneys dismissal, its so far off from reality.

Hes gonna be here for the remainder of the season and probably next season too.

We are just gonna have to deal with it. Like everything else with this team.

Shoenfeld is curently under contract to the New York Rangers and needs to have permission from the organization to talk to any other team about a job. Also, he's said he likes working out of the front office, as opposed to coaching, so it's probably not a fair question to ask anyway.
