Andrei Markov appreciation thread

A thread for a player who doesn't get near the credit he deserves for how GREAT a player he is.

He didn't register one point tonight, but was the best player out there IMO. Stifled Ovechkin, Zubrus and Semin all night. Made beautiful passes all night namely to Higgins x2 & Perezhogin.

I think it's a shame if he's not recognize as an all star player this year. I don't ask myself if he's top 10 material in the league anymore, now I ask myself if he's even better.

Indeed, let's not forget how he shut down Crosby as well. The one and only must sign of the summer.

Huge fan of his, he and Koivu have been my favorite Habs. I'm hoping he doesn't go to the All Stars since that and any awards players get will help them get more money come contract renewal.

I also don't want Koivu to go to the All Stars as I'd rather see him get the weekend off to rest.

With all the talk during the game on TSN about how Ovechkin and him are great buddies, it worries me that Washington may pry him away. As far as I know, they have a lot of cap room and Ovechkin has a lot of sway.

And remember, if we lose him for nothing, it is really for nothing. You don't get a sandwich draft pick compliments of the league for developing a star player anymore when you lose him.

Never seen him more confident- can handle forechecking pressure with ease and sure as hell isn't scared to pinch knowing he's got speed to hustle back. Markov's been absolutely great to watch. If anyone's in need of a longterm deal right now it's that guy.

That play he made on the Higgins chance was masterful. And he's easily one of the best at the outlet passes from his own zone. Not to mention his amazing stickwork on defense. Hmmm...is there anything he can't do well?

My jaw dropped when he made that play, I mean it didn't even look like he saw Higgins coming off the bench, they guy's hockey sense is off the charts.

I have a better idea, we sign markov this summer, no big deal, and then markov persuades Ovechkin to sign here.

I like this idea better, lol.

I don't think Markov will leave, from interviews I've read of him he is not comfortable in North America at all and he won't find a more European city here than Montreal. I think he is comfortable here. The Habs can sign him me thinks,.

I would not be surprised if some team offered Markov the league maximum next summer

I'd be very surprised... That would be horrible cap management.

Markov is good, but he's no Niedermayer, Pronger or Lidstrom.

You know if he could keep up his play for 30 minutes a la Pronger and Nieds on a regular basis, it would not be an overpayment.

The sooner we sign him the better we are off so I really hope Gainey can sign him this season since he's going to get alot on the open market.

I am positive he will re-sign before he hits the open market.
