Peca traded to mtl??

One of my co-worker told me that a rumour said that Peca is about to be traded for Ribeiro. Anyone have more info on this one?

I heard Gainey was holding out for Niinimaa to be thrown into the deal.

I heard a rumour saying that Peca was hospitalized in the geriatric department this morning.

Sorry man, I haven't heard of that one... What are HIS sources?

The only thing I've heard is when I think it was Pednault who said that Peca was gonna be shipped out and Meehan was in Long Island and was it a concidence for Meehan to be on Long Island and Ribeiro sitting?

Thats all that was said.

ON rds.ca it days:
"Le Canadien surprend le Lightning"

Maybe they mean that the Lightning are surprised by the trade of Peca for Ribeiro.

Would you do Peca for Koivu?

No.

Regardless of what people seem to believe, Koivu is a number one center in this league. He's intense, consistent, clutch and a quality character and leader. For a rebuilding club, Koivu is a tremendous asset.

Peca is also extremely intense, a great character player, leader, outstanding defensively and would provide the Habs with the physical presence down the middle that they've lacked for ages. But he's not a player that can create offense.

I think it's important for young players with offensive potential to play with talented offensive players. Players like Higgins, Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, and even defensemen like Hainsey and Komisarek need to have some offensive players to grow around in order to fulfill their offensive potential in my mind.

Likewise, I'm not sure if the NYI would be interested in moving Peca for Koivu. Certainly Koivu is the type of playmaker that makes his teammates better, and he's clutch as well as intense, which is what the Islanders need on their scoring lines, but Peca provides an important role for the club as well. It'd be a tough decision, and Scatchard may be good enough to make Peca available if the Isles brass felt there was a need to add a playmaker and quality offensive-minded center to the mix.

On the other hand, given Koivu's history of injuries, I would doubt the NYI would come knocking . . .

Yes ! no doubts Peca is a better player , HEs stonger , faster , more intense and a true leader in the locker room ( god knows habs need leadership ). Rib is more offensive.. but 2 small to be dominant player.

I think peca has it's best days behind him.

I'd like to have his leadership (then again, is he overrated?) but i don't think he could improve our offence.

For the last time, every rumors need a legitimate source, your uncle who is a janitor at the Bell center for example is not a good source.

For future trade rumors, we want a source, a link preferably or a radio station preferably not named CKAC. Threads that don't comply will be deleted/edited/closed at the discretion of the mods.
