Though Feaster indicated the move was made as a backup plan after defensemen Filip Kuba and Paul Ranger suffered minor injuries Thursday night, the GM also said he was close to making a trade last week before the holiday roster freeze went into effect.
That is the first I have heard about this.

Karlsson seemed to start out really well, too bad how it turned out.

Am I the only one that thinks I should go help pack Vinny #20's bags?

While pretty much every move on HF is thought to be for "something bigger about to happen" I really believe that this will prelude to a trade.

Even if it isn't, it still gets some dead weight off the team.

PS - What I said in my first post was in jest, at least about bringing up Lascek. I would like to see Jones back up here again, but Torts cant make up his mind whether or not he was the third-line center or a guy who hadnt earned his playing time. I guess he could be both?

Anyone up on the CBA to understand how this money is freed from the cap? Is it because of their age and their deals?

I wish I could believe that, but I really cant. How many times have we heard about a possibe trade with this GM only to be dissappointed? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Is Afanasenkov worth being picked up on waivers?

He's got talent, but IMHO he's a notorious underachiever.

He has soo much talent! He just was unable to finish. For crying out loud, he was playing his freaking tail off!

Lots of former NHL players have talent and can't finish, you know what happens to them? They go to Europe or become bartenders.

But he's too affable to be a bartender, and he has a wife and a daughter to feed at home, how is he supposed to go to Europe????

If no one claims him off waivers, do you think he'll be playing in Springfield's 12/31 game? Cause if so, I'm going to Springfield

Oh and this totally sucks because the next game I'm going to I had plans to bring a sign for Affy because no one else seems to like him.

Does this make sense? Two guys suffer minor injuries and you put 2 others on waivers? And that's a backup plan?

The Ottawa Sun also reported earlier today that the Bolts may be close to swinging a deal, possibly with the Chicago Blackhawks. Something definitely seems to be brewing in Tampa Bay.

According to Spector, the waivers free up 1.2 mil. Maybe the Bolts are looking for goaltending again! Where better than the Hawks?

Brian Boucher, Patrick Lalime, and a Khabibulin autographed puck for Vinny and Denis.

Considering both defensemen finished the game they must be very minor injuries.

I don't know if I buy that excuse.

There's plenty of money in Europe for him if he has to go to Europe. He won't be making minimum wage and be homeless if he goes there. He's played 3 seasons in the NHL making 6 figures, I think he'll be ok. Just like Burke isn't on the streets dumpster diving because he got sent to Springfield.

Affy does have some talent. After the 04 playoffs, I was looking forward to him possibly moving his way up to a top 6 spot in the future. Unfortunately, like Patrick said he's one of those guys who won't put all the talent together to become a scoring line player. Finishing is a skill and Affy doesn't have that. All guys in the NHL have talent, it's the guys who put it together to become good hockey players. Affy just can't do it. He'll be fine wherever he goes. If he catches on with another team, maybe he becomes a good hockey player there. Besdt of luck to the two guys, but I won't be losing any sleep tonight worrying about them. They'll still make their money this year and make a good salary in Europe if they don't make it in the NHL.

I love Affy, but you're right. I'm just not making a whole lot of sense out of this right now. I will say this; I'm sick of waiting for something to happen. This seems like no big deal to me. I wonder if Feaster is trying to get Habby back somehow...............

I'd cry in excitement if that happened. And post a video of it. Just to get Habby back.

And how in the world would he make that happen? The cap would not allow it.
