As for the Orr Suspension its seems as if it was based more off of salary then total games. Both players lose close to 15K while being out. Either way, we have some guys that we can try up in NY if we really "need" and Enforcer.

Janssens would hit Jagr or anybody else for that matter with or without Orr in the lineup....

Brashear hit everybody in sight with Orr in the lineup....

Prucha got hurt last year with Orr in the lineup

Prucha Jagr Straka you name it have all been run with Orr in the lineup..Orr can't even win a fight...oh no the coach told him to lose weight so he could you know become a better skater...oh no...

And you got it i am an Orr hater until he does something to earn a roster spot.. I would love it if the Rangers replaced him with somebody akin to Hollweg who can play tough but also contribute in other areas..Orr can't skate backwards...I repeat Orr can't skate backwards...He adds nothing to the roster..If we had a legit nhl heavyweight i wouldn't be complaining about him...I complain about Orr because he sucks...HE SUCKS..I don't care about the meaningless fights in the past...It added nothing to his reputation...Case in point...last night Washington...

From the way things work down here I bet i'd have to tip for more napkins...

I think that's the point here. We don't know what Ward said to Brash, again I dont think him hitting Ward was "right" but depending on what was said he was already peeved, I would stay out of his way and let him skate off, not run my mouth to him. Hitting Ovie in the face deserved the 5 games, I would feel the same if it was Clymer hitting Hollweg, I dont care who got hit just that the hit itself was cheap (i dont like that word because it gets everyone fired up but I cant think of another!) Shanny handled the manhandling of Jagr, it should have stopped there.

Who knows maybe its a good thing. Maybe Renney will call up Lessard for the next couple of games. I'd love to see Lessard go after Cam; maybe he'll mess that shoulder up again.

While it can be argued that Brashear should have gotten a longer suspension, I would argue that Orr's suspension was to be expected. The league--rightfully so--has cracked down heavily for many years on using one's stick as a weapon and that's exactly what Orr did. Orr could avoided this problem by hitting Ovechkin with his body in a legal check--he might have gotten a minor for interference since the puck was so far away, but that's a minor the Rangers could have lived with, because it would have sent a honest message. Instead, our "enforcer" singled out a skill player who hadn't hurt anyone in the game (and was on the ice for 3 goals against).

Orr has to learn to pick spots better if he wants to remain in the league.

Good. Orr should have been suspended five games. Retaliation or not, he started it no he started it, it's all bull****. There's a right way to play the game and a right way to make a statement, and cross checking an opposing forward in the face behind the play is bush. There's no debate. It's too bad Brashear wasn't out there to fracture Orr's skull for that cheap ****. I hate cheap shots, both given and received by my team. It's a reasonable punishment.

I'm tired of all this nonsense about sending a message. No message was sent, other than we're willing to play dirty. In a perfect world, two wrongs equal even. In the real world, two wrongs lead to more wrongs. Cheap shotting AO just opens the door for someone to take an ugly run at Jagr next time these teams meet. And then, people here will clamor for retaliation, which will in turn cause this **** to spiral further out of control. It amazes me to see people here oblivious to the idea that there are correct and incorrect ways to retaliate, and it blows my mind even more that the people that acknowledge a difference think a cross check to the face is some qualified as acceptable.

Brashear deserved more. His shot was cheap, as well.

I still support everything Orr did last night, including the cheap shot on OV.

He played in 15 games for us.

Having him around hasn't really helped keep our guys from getting run.

5 is about what I expected for Orr, can't really complain about that.

But 1 for Brashear is a bit comical, especially considering his past.

There is a reason that someone hated this guy enough to smack him across the skull with a hockey stick.

My only regret was that Marty didn't do it across his face.

Yes that's cruel, I fully admit it.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Good thing for Orr than it was a only a Russian. If it had been Crosby, Soupy would have banned him for life.

Well, it's kinda up to Shanahan. I somehow don't think he's the type of guy who would just lay down and do nothing even if the Rangers had an enforcer to take guys on. I don't think he's gonna go over and tap the guys shoulder and say "alright, you gotta get out there and start somethin!"

He's gonna go out there and do it himself if he feels like it. The only thing is that the coaches can tell him not to do it.

Right, and then when Orr takes a shot at Elias or Gomez it will make Janssens realize that if he wants to hit Jagr, fine, but his best players will also get lit up. Eye for an eye.

did you get mad when messier did the samething to gilmour in the 96-97 playoffs? can't have it both ways? i have no problem with what orr did last nite, although if it was huggy bear who got that hit nobody would say anything, people have been pushibg the rangers around all year and orr got sick of it! huggy bear is a d!ck and has no credabilty in the league and until he answer bell to laroque and others he'll be forever known as cherry picker!

Janssen, Eager and Fedoruk, and McGrattan, not to mention the Isles, are coming up. If these guys take advantage of the situation, there's only Hollweg on this team who will try to stop them. (We don't want Shanahan playing this role.) Isbister would be a stop-gap and his goal production equals that of Hossa. Lessard would be called to sit on the bench by another coach at least to neutralize Janssen, but if Renney hasn't changed his spots, he'll just let things happen.
