Bure vs Neely

Who would you rather have on your team?

For me I would take Neely. The only thing Bure has on Neely is goal scoring and I think it's closer than most people think. Neely also brought more to the table than Bure. He was a lot more physical than Bure. Neely could set the tone to a big game by fighting, making a big check or scoring a big goal. Furthermore, in a game seven playoff series I would rather have Neely than Bure. Neely is one of the best playoff performers ever.

Of course it's Pavel. If it was Valeri it wouldn't be close.

Bure was probably the better player. But I would take Neely on my team over him every day of the week. Neely was a huge winner. May not have won a Cup but look how he played in the playoffs and in big games. Neely is the stereotype of the perfect tough as nails hockey player that can score and fight and hit.

Bure was more exciting and probably sold more tickets, and had more talent and better skills, and of course he helped you win games but not like Neely.

Bure played hockey to score goals. Neely played hockey to win games.

No question it was Neely he was a complete player he could do everything he could hit score fight and he did what ever it took to win games and if it wasnt for Samuelson he would of probably won a Stanley Cup.But on the other hand Bure was also a great player but he just dosnet compare to Cam.

Well, i think it's better to focus on the comparison, rather then start the meaningless discussion about the "hit" again...

I would take Bure. He almost made the Canucks champions in the best final series ever played. Maybe im biased because i didn't see any late 80s games, but i think Bure was simply better.

It is bure and if bure would come back to the nhl he would probably score 20 goals.

Grew up in New England and watched a ton of Bruin games during Neely's heyday. Let me tell you, Neely is WAY overrated. Neely has a clear edge over Pavel physically, but that's it. Bure is an easy choice.

I agree with this statement 100%

Not to say that Bure didn't want to win, but that all he could do to make sure of this was to score a goal whereas Neely played a better game in his own zone, was better able to assist the D in clearing the crease and could change the momentum of a game with a big hit or throwing down with THE best and biggest enforcers of the game at that time and not only hold his own, but win the majority of the fights he was in.

I loved Bure during his time in NY, one of the few players in recent memory (Jagr and Rucinsky) that have actually played up to their talent levels (Bure and Jagr) or above their talent levels (Rucinsky) when they got here.

That being said, if I had to choose between Bure and Neely, I'd take Neely because he played to win games and did more to ensure that than Bure.

I love Neely's toughness and all, but Bure's goal scoring prowess is too hard to pass up.

Your first post should also be your last ! Neely overrated
The Man was a machine on the ice tough as nails could deliver a bone crushing check score at will and threw them.Your hockey knowledge is nill !!!

Bure and Neely were both Great players allthough two totally differnt players but if I was going to war I would want Cam in the trenches with me and that is what the playoffs is all about.

Bottom line is you couldn't go wrong with either player they both brought it in different ways. "The Russian Rockett" = speed and skill at a devasting high level and Cam Neely a player who could do it all !

Didn't you do this poll last year? And didn't Neely win that one by a fairly convincing margin?

Neely was the better hockey player, the better teammate and the better person. Outside of Messier, nobody in the last 30 years has combined goal-scoring and physical play better than Cam Neely.

Neely didn't have goal scoring 'prowess'? What exactly is 50 goals in 44 games then? Competence?

This same comparison has been done at least 2 or 3 times before, we're just rehashing the same old arguments.
