Rumor: Patrick Thoresen to WBS

To respect the 23 players limit due to the claim of Petr Nedved, it appeared that the Oilers have sent down Patrick Thoresen to WBS.

Further confirmation or sources to come but they have to cut someone and make it official by the end of the day.

Why him and not the very useless JF Jacques.

Good.

There are enough guys on the team that can bring, or more specifically, not bring what Thoresen wasn't bringing to the table.

Atleast Jacques and Winchester can give the line up a little bit of a different look and at 8-10 minutes a night that is good enough for me.

very useless JFJ is an understatement. I'd have to use abysmal.

Well well...I was thinking it was going to be Petersen, but whatever.

I honestly didn't think it was going to be either JFJ or MAP, and I can't honestly say why. MacT seems to have a shine for those two, despite their relative lack of production.

This move baffles me too... I think if anything we need a responsible player like thoreson in the lineup right now, instead of taking a gamble everynight that somehow JFJ wont be on the ice for a goal against every shift, and throw out those vicious "love taps" that get recorded as "hits" in the stats.

See the worst part about those love taps is that shots blocked fall into the same category. Smith has been a potential heart attack everytime he touches the puck. Watching those love taps that do absolutely nothing and his unbelieveable lack of hockey awareness/sense makes me wonder why he's even on an NHL/farm roster. I know that was a little rough but I have not seen anything out of him to justify even having him over Mikhnov.

ah criminy...

Well, lets hope this is part of a Jacques pump'n'dump, and that we'll get our D-man (men) AND Thoresen back at the same time... hopefully soon.

Schremp's defensive game is still a major work in progress. Bringing him up now would in all likelyhood be detrimental to his game, as well to the Oilers. Not many situations he could be used in at the current moment and I doubt the 4th line would be a good fit, and considering that's where he'd draw in if he was called up; it really makes no sense.

Maybe they think Thoreson needs more ice time to get his game back

I agree 100%. Thoreson at least provides quick and efficient two-way play while Jacques provides quick and efficient nothing.

limited minutes in a limited role with a slumping offense gives Thoresen nothing. Peterson can replicate what thor is bringing right now. It makes 100% sense to get Thor some valuable playing time. he is afterall, a prospect that can contribute to the NHL team within the next few seasons. Sending him down over JFJ doesnt mean Lowe thinks JFJ is more valuable, it probably means quite the opposite.

I actually mentioned that he should be sent down in a thread a week or so ago. If he's not getting playing time, or providing much offense, some time in the AHL to boost his confidence and get his offensive game going would be a good thing. He is still a very young player, so he needs to be treated as such. I wouldn't be surprised to see him called back up later and one or both of MAP or JFJ getting a ticket back to WBS.

Yes I agree. Dumb move to not send JFJ or Petersen who is equally useless.

I'm sure that it's a 2-way deal because all entry level contracts are 2-way contracts. Older Euro players than Patrick like Hejda and Mikhnov are other examples of this.

Thoresen will be back or be traded.

We have a derth or 4th liners and young ones at that. The Oilers will have to move at least two of these forwards to do what they want on the back end.

I just read a vg.no article where they interviewed him on being sent down. Bascially said the same thing; only down for a short time. He added that he's pretty confident that someone will get shipped out shortly, too (i.e. to another team).

On a more personal perspective, him being sent down must be very hard on the family life. Didn't they just get kid no. 2? Young wife with two kids in a relatively new city and the hubbie goes on a "business trip" of really unknown length...
