Rangers claimed Nedved but oilers got him

Quote:
Given the tenor of conversation at this site, I’m pretty sure how this next little nugget will go over. But here goes: It turns out the Rangers WERE one of six teams to claim Petr Nedved on re-entry waivers from the Flyers, only to lose out to Edmonton, which was lower in the standings (although “lose out” might not be entirely appropriate here). Yes, even to try to go after the 35-year-old Nedved might further irritate those fans who want to see the team give more opportunities to prospects.. But seeing how the team would be on the hook for only a quarter of the two-time Ranger’s $2.35 million salary, it wasn’t like they’d be breaking the bank either way. Still, you have to wonder if a guy couldn’t hack it with the last-place Flyers, just how much fuel he’s got left in the tank. So if you don’t like the sound of it, be thankful it didn’t happen.

The funny thing is, at his price he might not have been too bad of an option to at least try on the 2nd line.

Now, that's not saying I'd endorse the move, but it would've been interesting to see, anyway. Shanny would've kicked him in the *** if he ever got lazy out there on his line. Plus, Cullen would've been moved to the 3rd.

A 2nd line of:

Prucha - Nedved - Shanny might not've been too awful.

The price for a center might be so high the Rangers thought they had no choice..This isn't just Sather up to his old tricks...6 other teams claimed Nedved.....The Rangers also could've been looking to block Ottawa (who the Rangers are going to be fighting for a playoff spot)

If you look even deeper this tells you a few things

1. They aren't happy with Cullen as a second line center

2. A trade is coming...

3. This is going to be a sellers market.

With all that being said I'm happy we didn't get Nedved..

See we can agree on some things - you are DEAD on with this one. I think Cullen belongs on the wing; we need a trade and we DON'T NEED NEDVED

I wont be shocked if Allison gets signed by Sather at somepoint if indeed if we did attempt to get Nedved.

Exactlty..Though I hate the fact that the Rangers were even thinking about Nedved because I think he is totally washed up (and never liked him), it also shows to me that the Rangers are probably seriously zeroing on trade targets for a 2nd line C ..That is something that I think is needed and would enable them to slide Cullen down (or trade him even) and stabilize/make sense out of the lines..

The Rangers need a playmaking center to put on Shanny's line. I think most of us can agree that Petr Nedved is not much of a playmaker. I always felt as though he would have been a much better player had he shifted to the off-wing at some point. He is not much of a passer, but his speed and deadly wrist shot could have worked out from the wing in my opinion.

Maybe Cliff Ronning can be convinced to come back. (Couldn't resist)

If Nedved is signed past this season..

that's very dicouraging news (Sather's intent to sign Nedved). Still, I thought Savard was the guy to sign in the offseason, and perhaps even extending Nylander, instead of negotiating and signing him at a higher price.

We should just sign Allison and take the risk.

Waw! This is the best Rangers related news I heard in a while, good luck to Mr. Just-Wide in Edmonton, glad we won't be seeing him here again.

id rather have him than nedved. Allison at least has some size and is more physical, but that is not saying much since Nedved is a pansy. Allison can help our PP more than Nedved would have. Allison is younger too.

Oh well. I wouldn't have mind Nedved. Although he frustrated the hell outta me, I did like him that year with Hlavac & Dvorak.

It takes A LOT for a player who wears my Rangers blue for me to not like him.

Only players I can think of the top of my head who I clearly didn't like in a NYR jersey were the following...

Kris King (Nothing against him, I just dont like his name, weird eh?)
Brian Skrudland
Mike Keane
Bruce Driver (hated him on NJ)
The Beezer
Jason Strudwick
Shane Churla
Glenn Anderson (Gartner was my fav NYR at the time)
Brian Noonan (Again, another one because of the name)
Luc Robitaille (Hated him)
Kurri (Hated him more)
Ray Ferraro (always a damn Islander to me)
Darren Turcotte
Pat Verbeek

My Fav NYR were (Kovalev, Zubov, Gartner, Bure, York, Ulf S, Domi, Fleury, LaFontaine, Schneider and Dvorak) :-)

I'm glad the Rangers didn't get him as well. I'd rather try Immonen some more at 2nd line center than take a guy like Nedved. $600,000 or not, it's wasted money in my opinion.

That's the thing, Garret....

the Rangers do not have Hlavac and Dvorak anymore. Those are the types of players with whom Nedved's been successful. Cullen is a similar type player and has had more recent success. I don't think you'd see much of a difference, except even less ice time for Prucha.

u can add Kamensky, Malakhov, Toms, McCarthy, Fedyk, Popovic, Ulanov, Quintal, Muzzatti, Dunham and Sweeney to that list of players I hated as a Ranger

Thats what i was thinking. I would just like to see if Prucha would have any Chemistry with Nedved or not. I know hes not the player he once was. But i still feel Philly used him for someone hes not. Hopefully he can gel with Sykora and Company in Edmonton.

What I don't get is, if we tried to get Nedved, why have we not tried out Allison? Is the rumour true, is he truly awful now?

He was a -21 in 20 games! Or was it -20 in 21 games! He has to have photos of Slats wearing Mrs Sather's panties for sather to want to bring him back yet again.
