I'm not even sure who this guy is..

But all I have to say is... thank God for Darren Dregger calling out the idiocy in this.

Hey, it'd be fun just to see Hrudey's reaction if this went through.

It'd only be worth it if Hrudey managed to get whoever brought the idea into fruition onto TV, and then severed his head and paraded it around on top of his goalie stick.

All we need to do is make it into the playoffs, force an overtime with the ducks and beat those hasbeen goalies 4 straight games in the shootout.
Actually, come to think of it, it's a good idea, we got Sykora, Hemsky and Nedved to take our shootouts.
You just know that Hemsky would pass to Sykora on the bench.

Shootout in the playoffs? Is he retarded?

I can't even imagine a hockey fan wanting to get rid of sudden death in the playoffs - the best games are always the ones that go to double and triple overtime!

This is stupid, no way the NHL does this.

Precisely.

Game 3 Edm/SJ was one of the games of the year in freaking Sports Illustrated for a reason.

When people who don't like hockey can call a game one of the best of the year, you know it was something special.

That would ruin play-off hockey, THE END.

It was Keith Jones. It's a terrible idea coming from a former blue-collar player, which is what I find even more surprising.

Also, are you guys serious about not knowing who Keith Jones is or did I miss the sarcasm somewhere? Or am I just older than I thought? He did play in the '90s though...

I am fine with shootouts in regular season, but I like nothing more than a triple OT game in the playoffs.

I don't think that he was entirely serious. From what I saw, he was playing devil's advocate more than anything, to try a get a response.

I have to listen to his sorry *** on VS telecasts. Yeah he was a player in the 90's up until teh late 90's I believe when he went from team to team. I recall him with the Flyers.

OT in the playoffs is the best, most exciting hockey one could watch. Shootouts are nothing more than a cheap thrill, especially in the playoffs.

^..Why not..knocking sense in him while he's dead has the same effect as just knocking sense in him.. well, while he's living.. except a little more fun.

I bet people wouldn't all turn it off if it came to the shootout.

If you were watching your Canucks go to a tie game in game 7 of the Finals, and it went to shootout, you'd turn it off?

Having said that, I don't agree with the idea of the shootout for the playoffs. While it's possible to have long games that suck (Anaheim had one when they made their huge run), but I agree that EDM/SJ Game 3 was sweet. You had Roloson making a huge glove save to keep his team in the series, and all sorts of other fun like that.

I was intrigued by the idea of letting you re-use your star players, I believe it's Dreger that brought it up. While I wouldn't want a team to be able to just put one player out the whole thing, I'd love to see something like..

You can re-use any player after a certain number of guys have gone between his attempts.

It'd be stupid to have one player taking every attempt, but when I see Crosby, Malkin, Kovalchuk, etc, score a brilliant goal in a SO, I want to see it again.

If shootouts are the greatest idea since sliced bread, why doesn't the NBA finish off its OT games with a 3 point shooting contest?

I will start praying that I never have to make this choice. I never watch the shootouts now, I just check back later to see who got the extra point (three points given out for a game between two of your division rivals is pretty annoying too). The shootout is like waiting for a goal to be reviewed. Just wait for the call. Honestly, the ones I've seen are boring and extremely anticlimatic.

If it were the playoffs, I'd of course watch it. But the outcome would be extremely unfulfilling. Unless my team wins, then I'd be really happy, but not estatic because the game ended basically in a tie.

I admit, i wouldn't because it's the canucks. But come on, if it came down to Boston vs the wild, i'd turn my TV off in a disgraceful manner.

Sadly I can see the NHL going to shootouts for the playoffs, those double and triple ot games kill network television and they get all pissed. I am sure they will think americans don't want to watch such a long game espically down south.
