Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins 2006-2007 GDT's Part 2

The sequel to the WBS GDT Thread.

I just figured that since 3 of our highest pro-filed prospects are on this AHL team, and we are all freaking starved for professional hockey, I'd throw up a GDT.

IMO he'll start out slow since he's been in the PB for awhile. I just hope that he doesn't take away many minutes from Schremp. However a reunion of the U of A Vs. Oilers Rookies game top line would be nice!!!

Thoresen-Schremp-Mikhnov

4 pretty solid forward prospects down there from the Oilers right now.

Make that Rob and Alexei's arrival!!! I've been a fan of the Traktor since his draft year, so I'd like to see him suceed with us, and if not maybe a team like Pittsburgh. It's been great having you on here with your numerous reports from viewing the games via PPV. Always a pleasure providing stats and shooting the **** with the great people on this board

Didn't Thor play against Calgary? Either way he's been sitting for awhile now.

This is exactly what I was looking for!!

Thanks Bryan, you have outdone yourself here. I can't wait to toss another Schremp update on the Bar-bry

Schremp seems to be doing a little better. I invested a few hours watching all of his points and others when he was on the ice. His skating doesn't look exceptional from what I saw but he does look like he is at least improved.

LETS GO SCHREMP

I finally get the local channel on my cable that shows some WBS games. This was to be my first game to watch and at the last moment they decided to cancel their coverage of tonights game.

Now he's upped it to 1 goal and 2 assists, good for him.

Schremp, Gilbert, Brodziak and Mikhnov are empty sweaters statistically thus far as their team is losing 6-5 after 2 periods.

Thoresen is too good to be playing in the AHL. He will be back here after a few games down there. I think Jacques and MAP are on the bubble. Thor is a better player at the moment than either of them. He's more responsible defensively and we could sure use that more than the limited physical play and noexistent offense that Jacques and MAP provide. This was only done to get Thor playing some decent minutes, but he'll be back...he'll be back...soon.

The problem is JFJ and MAP are too good for the AHL as well. I saw how they were playing before they were called up and they were dominant out there.

At this point both need to adjust to the speed of the NHL. Now that doesn't mean they can't be sat. Hemsky was sat and it did him a world of good. I think they should both sit out for 2 weeks and let Bucky work on their skating. Let them get a good PB view for a bit and let Winch and Peterson play. I'll bet both are dying to get in and will have some extra jump for 5-10 games each.

By the time Winch and Peterson slow down again, maybe MAP and JFJ will be in NHL game shape and they'll have some more muscle on the legs for that extra step.

Thor, I expect to get caught up in a numbers game with Nedved here. Unless a forward is moved, Thor is likely down for a bit battling with Schremp and Mik for the next injury call up spot.

Unless he just tears apart the AHL of course . If he starts putting up consistent 2+ PPG he'll get another shot pretty quick. But that is a pretty tall order. But if he were to do that, I'd expect JFJ to head back down for a bit, as he is a bit further away then MAP imho.

JDD came in in relief of Penner and gave up 1 goal on 15 shots and he gets the loss!!! Schremp had 5 shots and it looks like he's been getting a lot more puck on net in the last 5 games or so. Thoresen had 1-2-3 with only 1 shot (but he sure made that 1 shot count!!!) he was also named 2nd Star in his first career AHL game.

Schremp hasn't done too terribly bad over his last 10 games. He's had 3-5-8 (after having just 4 goals in his previous 23 games) +2 and maybe most importantly he's averaged more than 2 shots per game in that time with 22 shots on goal. IMO he's starting to turn the corner and things are seeming to come more easily for him at this level of late. A look-see at some point on the big club is still a possibility if he can continue to improve and by some miracle the big club isn't fighting for the 8th spot to the bitter end as usual.

The party is over for this kid. Schremp needs to start doing something big statistically. He never seems to be able to have those multi point nights. That will change tonight.

Brodziak has been our best fwd down there over the last while, he has 22 points in his last 21 games, +2. He's 2nd on the team in scoring. Pretty good for an elite pk'er.

Agreed, he had been rock solid all year long but he has really picked it up of late. I wonder what the teams plans are with him though??? IMO he should've gotten the call awhile ago. Amazing that we got 2 players that are dominant at the AHL level in back to back picks (Roy and Brodziak) but that neither have been given a fair shake at the NHL level this year.

He has only had 5 multi-point games this year and they were all of the 2 point variety. He has also yet to have a multi-goal game this season. I've been waiting for a break-out game for awhile, but IMO he's getting closer, and his confidence seems to be coming around.

It is getting slightly frustrating clicking on four to seven goals with a goal or assist and one out of every six games, both from Schremp. I expected some rough patches but was desperately hoping I was wrong. If he gets between 60-70pts this year I will be satisfied. It is starting to look more and more like he is going to be next year material with a definate possibility of a cameo appearance.

How is his attitude down there? I heard he had a spat with the coach, I do believe that was awhile ago, just want to make sure nothing resurfaced since then. Is he also getting stronger on the puck?

Thanks Bryan

I seem to remember an RS quote to the effect that he didn't feel the need to work on his skating this summer, "My skating is just fine" or some such. Anyone remember this or am I out to lunch?

I remember not going to see the same instructor again. I think from the article she was good for his attitude as well as his skating. I remember her saying he was a cocky, little bugger and he said he was put right in his place 5 minutes in. She said he was great after that. Why he didn't go is beyond me. He isn't an effortless skater, I don't read he is bad persay but rather 'unique' seems to be the choice word. To me that comment isn't a good sign of attitude, if you aren't Wayne Gretzky you have work to do to become the star RS feels he is or will be. he should be accepting all the help he can get, and that extends to every prospect trying to crack the NHL.

I heard his attitude has gotten better then all of a sudden I heard he got in a spat with the coach in regards to getting benched for those couple games I believe as a result of poor D play ES. Not 100% though.

He said that his skating was "good enough" if I'm not mistaken. The fact that he was the last cut in the year before's camp IMO had him thinking that he wasn't too far away from the NHL. Now he knows otherwise. He's learning the hard way, but sometimes getting kicked when you're down is the best learning experience.
