our kids are NEVER going to see time if guys like betts (who does serve a role for sure, but there are WAY more talented choices in the minors) are getting contract extensions.

...who do we have that would take Betts' place in the line-up? I didn't know we had any other 4th line center prospects who are as good defensively as he is. I mean, if we do, enlighten me as to who.
I like the him, and think he's vastly under-rated by Ranger fans, but, here's the dilemma of bringing back Betts; he's best utilized as a 4th line center. Cullen will be here next year, and should be the 3rd line center. When Betts is the 3rd line center, the offense is hard to come by. And, Dubinsky could actually play 4th line center next year, and begin his development at the NHL level. So, unless Dubinsky shows his ready for 2nd line duty before the end of the year, or the Rangers are content to move Cullen to 3rd LW, Dubsinky will most likely spend another year in Hartford. Unless, the Rangers deal Cullen in the off-season.
I like when people complain about grizzled old vets who are 26 years old blocking the way for "kids" to come up. Give the guy a break. He does a decent job and if they didn't resign him, there'd be a ton of people complaining about how we let a perfectly useful 4th line center walk for nothing.

Good move in my eyes...A solid checking/defensive center who can play 3rd or 4th line...And people who complain about youngsters not gettign a chance, Betts is only 26 and it's not like our cupboards are full of straight ahead defensive/checking centers...

this is the only problem i have with it, it does create kinda of a logjam, if they get the 2nd line center they need. But as an organization you can't wait for things like this to unfold. you have to protect and keep the assets.

We definetely agree on Betts and I hear ya on the dilemma...A dilemma raised by the idiotic signing of Cullen, but that's a bridge under water....
Still, a way out of it could indeed be a dealing of Cullen (maybe back to the Canes!)...That way, We would still have Nylander (not my choice, but I think he's resigned) and a FA for the top 2 lines...And then Betts and say Dubisnky could man the bottom two lines (One centered on Offense and one on defense) with ice time depending on the game conditions..SOmething I've been hoping for this year too..
