What chance Mason of an all star spot?

Firstly does the nhl choose the reserves? or is it up to all star coaches Carlyle and Trotz?

If its Trotz and Carlyle I would expect Trotzy to remind Carlyle Mason leads the NHL in save pct

For what its worth i think Sully and kariya will both be there but Mason will get no love.

Call me a pessimist, but I think Kariya or maybe Timonen might be added as "reserves" in case of injury (as "token" representatives for our team). I doubt Sully or Mason have a prayer, since the big boys in Toronto & New York hardly know we even exist....

I would be truly shocked if more than one Predators player ended up at the All Star Game.

really? I know stats arent everything but you think the 4th leading west forward in Kariya (2nd in assists in the west) wont be chosen as a reserve outright? only as an reserve in case of injury? Even with trotz as a coach at the game? I find it hard to believe he would be coaching yet have none of his own players representing nashville on the ice.

lol thats a lot of questions. What am I the riddler?

I don't think Mason is all star quality. He's been excellent for us filling in for Vokoun, but in no way is he an All Star in this league.

I too think we'll have a hard time getting an All Star. Kariya or Timonen are our best shots, but its going to be tough.

As cool as it is to have All Stars, it would be nice for our guys to have a weekend to rest up also.

I agree with that, but its also nice for us to be represented and hopefully get some local media attention with it. Wait who am I kidding, would anyone here notice?

Not much because somehow Roberto Luongo is all-star material. Kinda like Jonathan Cheechoo somehow starting.

From what I understand, only the starters will be announced tonight (3 forwards, 2 d-men, and 1 goalie) for each conference. The rest of the team will be announced / appointed at a later time -- maybe as soon as this weekend.

PREDICTED WESTERN CONFERENCE STARTERS:

Joe Thornton - Joe Sakic - Jonathan Cheechoo
Nicklas Lidstrom - Scott Niedermayer
Roberto Luongo

PREDICTED EASTERN CONFERENCE STARTERS:

Alexander Ovechkin - Sidney Crosby - Marian Hossa
Brian Campbell - Sheldon Souray
Martin Brodeur or Ryan Miller

Personally, I think Kariya is a lock for the reserves.

The Predators are ranked 2nd in the West - they'll get a representative or two. Kariya and Timonen are the most likely candidates although Mason may get some notice as a third goaltender with that NHL-leading SV%.

I'd also expect to see Radulov and possibly Weber in the Young Stars game.

Seeing this year's starters shows why I'm against fan voting. In no way should Luongo or Cheechoo be starting, especially Luongo. Oh well, its not as bad as its been in the past (voting for guys who haven't played all season), but I'm still against it.

I think fans' vote should only be weighted 1/3, coaches should vote and be weighted 1/3, and the players should vote and be weighted 1/3. That way we could "weed out" voting stupidity (e.g., Rory Fitzpatrick, Patrick Sharp, Jarkko Ruutu).

I think that's how the NFL does it....
