Looks like Lowe is trying everyone in the system before he bucks up for a trade, I've got nothing wrong with giving him a shot, even if he sits in the PB it could still be good for his development.

Sweet I've been interested in seeing what this kid could do, since he had success in the preseason.

Here's hoping (A) There's a trade forth coming *please K-Lowe* and/of (B) Roy goes back down.

I figured someone had to be injured. Well, I hope Gilbert makes the most of this shot.

Im a big Gilbert fan, he is going to make Bergeron more expendable. He is a good PP guy that can move the puck. I hope he steps in and plays well. I am at the point right now that if he can take Bergerons PP time then we should trade MAB + for a Phillips type of player. Or MAB+Torres for a signed Brad Stuart.

*I* make Tjarnqvist expendable.

Good for Gilbert. But seriously, something's going to have to be done about the D corps. Probably won't happen until the deadline, but something needs to give.

No he doesn't. He's just another rookie that's going to have to adjust to the NHL. As much as people rag on Tjarnqvist, he's been much better than either Smid or Greene. The only difference is he tends to get positive results against good players.

Staios
Smith
Bergeron
Hejda
Roy
Greene
Gilbert

That lineup just made Baby Jesus cry.

Don't get me wrong, there's some decent young talent there...but that's about as impregnable a fortress as a drunken prom date.

The Oilers are still trying to see if he has any balls?

Desparate times call for desparate measures. We are definitely desparate.

Good to see he's gonna get a shot. I think he'll do well, maybe even well enough to make Bergeron expendable? I dunno, i'm grasping at straws, much like Bergeron's defense.

OK, so Gilbert join the team in SJ.

A) Does he get into the lineup?

B) If so, what are the dman pairings, and who sits?

If Gilbert plays than Roy doesn't... that's fine, give the kid a look.

Hejda Smith
Gilbert Staios
Bergeron Greene

I suppose...

Yikes, 3 rookies.

It would not shock me if he did not even get a game. Same thing happened to Greene last season before he came to stick. They got him in some practices and pre-game skates, then sent him back down.

Are you still counting Greene as a rookie? Including the playoffs I would think he should just be considered a young D early into his NHL career.

Still hate that trade where we gave up Gilbert for what, 5 games worth of Tommy Salo?

Always thought he'd be a good one, I saw him play a couple of college games and he looked really good, very solid and smart on both sides of the rink. Haven't seen him play in the pros yet though, looking forward to that.

I thought he looked real strong in the preseason, and his AHL stats as a rookie d-man are very impressive. To me he looks like a very good player/prospect. That trade was a little curious even at the time. Looks terrible now for Colorado.
