The Czech-Mates

I have to say, this line looks like it could be something! Its only been a couple of games, but Nedved looks like he's starting to fit in nicely with Hemsky and Sykora. They were cycling the puck, had good awareness of each other on the ice, and Nedved was even grinding it out! I also liked how Mac T didn't push it and put the SHH line on the ice at the end of the 3rd instead of the Czechs.

I also really liked Nedveds work on the PP. It's early, but so far the experiment seems to be working. The push on Gators butt to get him back into the play was gold too! They had a little chuckle about that I'm sure.

As an aside, I think that was the Oilers best all-round game of the year. No giant lapses of play, a definite step up.

Whenever I hear the monikor 'Czech-mates', I keep imaging them tooling around in W. Edmonton mall with T-shirts similar to this:

Agreed.

Watching the hilights though, in hindsight, wouldn't it of been cruel and depressing if Nedved's stick accidentally got caught under Smith's jersey (which was very close to happening if you watch the replay) and took Smith out of the play completely.

Gotta be Smid.

And I'll give it 3 hours, I'm more of a pessimist when it comes to humanity's ingenuity than you are.

Yup, they are just on the verge, somebody just needs to let them know they can loosen up and have fun at it too, besides Nedved's conditioning, I think they might be a tad bit tight still. Should be exciting though!

Well, I'll never be confused with a graphic artist... but heres my best shot.

If the Oilers continue to play better, I might remove the brown bag and use it for my avatar.

I'm not the biggest fan of the all Czech line at ES. I'd much rather see it on the PP than as ES.

Hemsky can be more productive (at ES) on the SHH line. Because he will get more minutes.

I think Sykora has been struggling. Even in games where he gets two points he looks like he struggles.

Nedved has done much of what is asked of him. I think after some conditioning, he'll be much better.

Although, for a road game, they kept it pretty simple, and if Hemsky wasn't having a special night with the puck they may have created more.

I think San Jose will be a better test of our team.

Outstanding work!

But more importantly, you did it in less than 2 hours, restoring my faith in humanity.

Lol yeah... I was gonna put Laddy in, but with Jan's GWG the other night and my feeling that he could really help the blueline if he continues to play this way, I thought I should go with him.

Damn I'm a nerd.

For anybody watching the game tonight (SJ) how are the Czechs doing tonight?

This is getting frustrating, I have not been able to watch a game yet since we got Nedved, so I haven't seen them play together yet at all.

This was by far their best game as a unit. Nothing stupid defensively (a couple of small things, but certainly better than it has been), and they got a couple of pretty good chances.

I thought they played pretty well tonight, and Nedved has shown he can play well defensively. They cycled the puck well and had a couple good chances. Nedved even sprung Hemmer for a partial breakaway with a beauty pass. Sykora was alright, had a shot where he was alone in the slot and put it high. He needs to capitalize on those chances because thats his bread and butter. I still think Mac T should keep this line together.

Let's not get carried away here.

He's still losing his man and waiting for the puck to come to him, he just lose his man in front of the net this time.

I was really impressed with Nedved tonight esspecially in the 3rd. He was skating hard, controlling the puck, made a few great passes including that incredible one to Horcoff or Hemsky I think. Had a good chance to score in the 3rd too with the spin around move and was threw a few hits too.

He really is starting to look like the Nedved of old VS the last year.

I would still much rather see hemsky with horcoff and smyth, and then lupul moved down with nedved and sykora...

Edit: Looking at the shift chart for this game, it looks like hemsky was put with horcoff and smyth for the last half of the 3rd period, and sykora and nedved didnt see the ice once... I think thats good coaching, you can't trust those other two guys in that situation

I would say he's the most defensively responsible out of the 3 linemates

Carried away! You're the one who said this guy was finished.

While I'm not a big fan of his defensive game, I think it is safe to say that Nedved is bringing more than MAP or JFJ can, currently. More than you ever gave him credit for (and have yet to utter a good word about him because it burns you inside to be wrong).

I would easily rather see peterson in the lineup over nedved... and it isnt even really a close decision.
