I'd give it to Chicago first, if Havlat can stay healthy for five minutes, but ... yeah.

Phoenix still has a ton of games against San Jose, Dallas and Anaheim, so it's not like their in a soft division.
They have 4 against the Sharks, 4 against the Ducks, 3 against the Stars, 3 against the Kings.

And let's face it, the Oilers and Phoenix have 4 head to head matchups every year. No team can ever claim to deserve a playoff spot if they don't show up in those games. We are 2-1 against Phoenix, with one more home game against them.

Win games. That's the only thing you can do.

Actually, they juggled their lines after a 4 game losing skid. Since then, they have won the last 3 games with Marleau - Thornton - Grier as their top line.

I agree. I think the 'Yotes have it tough -- but then there are no easy first two places in any of the divisions. I thought Detroit would suffer, but they seem okay -- but then Cleary is their leading scorer! So bizarre. Who would have thought that the Wings would be led like this?

Anyway, getting into the playoffs is going to be a fight, and competing every night (and adding another d or 2) is going to be required. I'd like to see Torres show up like its the playoffs... beginning tonight.

Michalek's apparently out tonight as well, and Bernier is in the minors...

Maybe we have a hope in hell?

Really? Well that sounds like they would be easier to shut down with Cheechoo not setting things on fire and throwing most of your considerable fire power onto one line. Are Michalek and Cheech on different lines then or is one playing out of position?

and over on the Ducks' board they are whining about their defence.

Well, we'll really be able to tell something after tonight. Wow. My prediction: Green and Gilbert will compete well and hopefully hold their own.

Just teach one guy on each pairing to yell to Roli "Incoming!!" and tell them not to get in the way and have a puck deflect off of them and change direction or something.

Maybe this will make the whole team rally, and play a 100% team defence game?? The oilers fair pretty well when this is the case...

You'd hope so, wouldn't you? I don't really get how they played so well defensively those first couple games when Hemsky and Smyth were hurt (Vancouver, Carolina, Dallas) and now they can't get the puck out of their end to save their lives.

I dunno, sometimes they rally. Sometimes they just get killed.

I said this in the GDT earlier today....time for Roli to steal one.
Considering tonights circumstances it would have to be considered Grand theft.

there would be no better time for them to do this than now, I would say.

This is going to be glorious.

Rollie may as well install an air raid siren atop his crossbar, I can't wait.

Forward - Forward
Defenseman - Defenseman
Roloson - Markkanen

If Jussi isn't comfortable switching his glove and blocker hands for tonight, maybe they can fly Fuhr in to play the right half of the net?

Yep, only four rookies.

I'm actually excited to see Gilbert play tonight, I have a funny feeling we're going to manage to pull out a win tonight.

This is so remeniscent of when we had to bring in Mike Morrison. Let's hope Gilbert/Roy/Hejda can play as good as he did for that stretch and hold the bleeding while Lowe gets us some help.

If I were MacT or Lowe I would actually force Staios to play at least one period. This could either get ugly or we will be completely surprised, in a good way.

I'm going to remain optimistic and cheer for these new guys tonight. I believe they can get it done.

21-20 Oilers, Thornton will muff the hold on the game winning kick and fall a couple yards short of converting.

Nothing to worry about. Gilbert scores a hat trick in his NHL debut.
