I'm outraged at the term of the contract along with the salary, not just the price. If it were a one or even 2 year deal, fine. He is not worth that much money over 4 years, and if by the end of the contract he is - I will eat my jersey.
pretty sure an unrestricted-to-be d-man isn't looking for a one or two year contract. given what the market was for other middle of the road defencemen (thank you toronto), staios signing was reasonable. as for term, any time you are signing a veteran when he's a ufa, you pretty much accept that by the end of the contract you will likely be overpaying. fortunately with staios, he's been injury free throughout his career and has been a late bloomer so hopefully he maintains his skills until the end of the contract.
