A nice honour, for sure - but I'm supposed to believe that Yannic Perrault is having a more all-star worthy season than Anze Kopitar and or Malkin??? Someone should amend the rules or the voting process... Those two should be in the big game, not the Young Guns sideshow.

The All-Star rosters were selected by the coaches. Big mistake I think. Let the media select the players. I'm not in favor of the fans voting (as we witnessed how the fan-voting format can be exploited). You know the media wouldn't be selecting Jason Blake over Ilya Kovalchuk.

Blake got in due to Peter Laviolette's man crush on him. You know damn well Murray didn't vote for mini-me.

Oh I meant selected by the coaches of the All-Star teams. So Ruff and his All-Star coaching staff selected the Eastern All-Stars and Carlyle and his staff selected the Western All-Stars.

It's really the league's doing, not the coaches'. It's all about the TV ratings. If markets like Arizona and the Island aren't represented, that's potentially a lot of fans who may not bother tuning in to watch. In fact, this is just speculation, but it may even be the network's doing, since they might be mandating that all markets be represented if they're going to air the game. Either way, it's all about TV ratings.

I have no problem with all teams being represented. Fans of every team should have someone to root for.

Congrats to Lubo, btw.

Exactly. Granted Perrault has had a resurgence of sorts in the desert, but to indicate that his season is better than either Malkin & Kopitar is wrong - These 2 kids are the real deal and both are having a big impact on their respective teams. At the end of the day, it could be worse - they could have been left off the Young Stars team...

Back when Gretzky and Lemieux were in the game, I seem to recall the best players representing the Conference and the sport were selected, and those turned out to be the most exciting All-Star games. Nowadays, the game has lost its luster due to the dumb rule of having every team represented and now the All-Star coaches selecting their roster (along with the fans voting for the starters).

Anyone remember Wings fans stuffing the ballots a few years back to get Uwe friggin' Krupp into the All-Star starting lineup? Thankfully he didn't win and he was also injured for the entire season. They were close to voting in a player who barely even stepped foot on the ice!

I'd be more in favor of having the media members vote and select the starting lineup and All-Star rosters.

Young Guns game = LAME (in any sport)

How is seen as an "honor" to be among the "best new players who haven't reeally done anything yet"?

It should be kept as an ALL STAR game, and then when a rookie makes the team, THAT would be an honor.
