OT: What do you think the #1 greatest moment at the Garden will be?

Im pretty sure youve all seen a bit of this series on MSG. What do you think the #1 moment is going to be?

I personally (and I thought up of this a month ago) think that the #1 greatest moment will be something anti-climatic, so it will be the opening of the Garden as the greatest moment. Without this sports venue, nothing else on the list would be there.

I have actually missed the 2nd and 3rd to last shows, so unless the 1994 Stanley Cup has been shown I'd say that is the #1 moment.

Go to the screening on Jan 18th and find out first. Just got an invite via email. It's for season subscribers (and a guest.)

From my inside source at the Garden he said Matteau is number 6. and the top 5 in no peticular order are Pope's visit, Rangers Cup, concert for NY, Willis Reed and Ali/Frazier. I hope the cup is number 1, but I get that feeling its gunna be Ali/Frazier.

How loud was it when he scored the goal compared to other crowd sounds you heard?

I think it'll be Willis Reed, personally. Though it should be 1994.

Ali/Frazier is considered by most boxing fans as "The fight of the century". The Rangers winning the cup is probably most people on this board's choice for the number one slot but Ali/Frazer had cultural and political connotations far beyond any sporting event ever to take place at the Garden. There was interest worldwide in that fight unlike the cup win in '94 (or not to the same scale at least). I believe that fight was even the first pay per view sporting event ever aired.

Ali/Frazier was recently voted the greatest sports rivalry of the 29th century by ESPN recently and I can't say I disagree with them. The only obstacle to Ali/Frazier surrendering the top spot to the '94 cup win is if the Rangers get the home ice advantage so to speak.

OT: I saw my father cry for the first time when we won the cup. He used to sit up in the old blue seats and he never got to see them win a cup. That whole summer was one of the happiest times of my life but I am simply trying to lend some objective insight as to what should legitamately be considered the Garden's single greatest night....

First thing that came to my mind was Willis Reed, although the '94 Cup and Ali/Frazier should be the top 3 no matter what.

Ali/Frazier...

was a worldwide event - moreso than Reed/94 Cup. On the latter two, you need to call it a tie. Both at the time seemed to have similar meaning to the City. Basketball's bigger, but 54 years?

Thats what I was thinking to. If the 94 cup is anything but top two then to me the whole top 50 will be a waste of time.

Hard to believe but I also was at both and agree. Sudden death plus the incredible saves made it the best game in my forty year history of watching the beloved Blueshirts

I have a feeling the Willis Reed game will sneak into the second spot. When Reed emerged from the tunnel the crowd went nuts, and that was just before warm ups. Granted, basketball is a much different game than hockey but remember when Jagr tried to pull a "Willis Reed" in the playoffs last year? Well the WR game was the complete opposite of that. While the cup meant more to me personally, I don't think that game had the signature moment of the WR game. Lost in all of that is the game Clyde had. One of the great performances in the NBA finals of all time and it was the Lakers and Wilt Chamberlain they beat (among a few other Hall of Famers). Add to that, the fact that Knicks are a franchise with a larger fan base and you might have a recipe for the WR game taking the silver here. I hope I am wrong.

That game WAS the Cup. No way Vancouver was gonna win so really it was Matteau's goal that won it in '94
