Gretzky's proven to be an astute hockey managerial mind in his time in Phoenix.

I bet you Theodore offered Wayne a night with Paris Hilton if he'd talk good about him

So how come Gretzky didn't go for that Theodore + a first rounder package?

Here is my prediction:

1) Avs buyout Théo during the summer

2) Barnett gives him a 2M$ deal

3) Barnett gives Big Bert a 5M$ deal

4) The Yotes get the first overall pick in 2008

ok it's official... Gretzky was a great player but he's really bad to evaluate talent. Come on!

you don't get it at all ; Gretzky only hope that AV are going to keep him , because that means that they could loose more games than the Coyotes

Maybe he's just being diplomatic with the Denver press. I mean, you don't want to go in their town and call one of their players wash-up, do you? (Phoenix played Colorodo yesterday)

Imagine the reaction if he said Theodore "can't play in the NHL"

Some of the Colorado writers might agree with that.

what he said

What would you expect from Gretzky when he's talking to the Denver Post? What would you say; "Oh, haha, that Theodore fella, wow is he ever terrible now, eh?"

Plus, Theodore is only 30, still time to work at it.

I can not believe he said this, I mean classy is one thing but this just makes Gretz look dumb. He should have sad he has been struggling and with some hard work I am sure he will get through it or he has hit a rough patch but to say he has not hit his prime give me a break.

Umm, some people need to read the article.
We all know he has elite skills.
We all know Theo's main problem has always been mental.
It has never been, "Theo just doesn't have the skills to be a good goalie". It has always been "Theo has all the tools but his mind just always messes him up".
If you read the article, that is all Gretz pretty much said. I.e., if Theo ever gets his head screwed in right, he can be a great goalie. Thus, "he MAY not have hit his prime yet". The key word being "MAY".

Gretzky never says anything bad about other players especially in the media. He's giving his standard "glass is half full" comment on a struggling athlete.

I'd take the Theodore's salary and the first rounder to go along with my firesale if I were Gretzsky. One more first rounder never hurt and we never know where Theo could end up...
