We don't need a guy like Cooke, and I'd rather Ryder over Morrison.

Samsonov for Morrison straight up I'd do though. Then again, Morrison is as inconsistent as Sammy..

Or how about we keep the team the way it is because it's a good team and we are 4th.

me too, that was the way I was thinking writing up the proposal, but I doubt Vancouver would go for it.

This way vancouver gets 2 wingers for their top two lines (which they need), and a goalie upgrade over Sabourin.

We get a 2nd line centre at a little cheaper than what we pay samsonov, an very solid 3rd-4th line winger and what will be a pretty high pick.

higgins-koivu-Perezhogin
Lats-Morrison-Kovalev
Cooke-pleks- johnson
Lapierre-Bonk-Begin

not too shabby...

I hope you feel the same way once Koivu gets hurt...

The proposal isn't far off and I would think about it, but I would hope for more in exchange of Ryder...

Also, Samsonov might finaly break out, we never know. If he become the player he is supposed to be, we are in business, if not, oh well...

in the (very likley) event Koivu gets hurt...

Morrison, Plekanec, Bonk, Lapierre

vs

Plekanec, Bonk, Lapierre, Murray

hmm, looks like a no brainer to me!

Exactly. I suppose a variety of Canucks fans will say they don't want Samsonov/Ryder or their salaries either, but whatever. I don't see any real advantage to us here... Morrison has 3 points more than Plekanec, and any cap savings we might have dreamed of by dealing Samsonov get sacrificed by adding him. I think it's a pointlessly sideways deal for us *at best*. If we're going to risk fixing something that ain't broken, then it has to be better than sideways for us. If not, fine, we stand pat.

You're right, and while we're at it we can get a replacement for Kovalev, Souray, and Markov because they've been injured before and so will get injured again. Gainey will deal with the problem if it ever happens.

Can someone explain me the Danis part in this proposal? Why would Canucks need him, knowing he will be ufa next summer? Besides, with Luongo, their backup is going to play only handful of games - doesnt matter much who it is anyhow. Ryder would fit there nicely as a right winger ... but they are better covered on the left side. Selling Samsonov especially with his contract would be tough, knowing Canucks are running with tight budget. Seems to me this proposal wasnt given much of thought from their pov.

A better one Grabovski, Plekanec, Bonk, Lapierre...

Morrison is far from being the answer, but I agree that an upgrade at center is in order (please let it be Forsberg...)

Something tells me that getting slashed in the retina is not an annual occurance.

? not sure I get your point. Koivu has been one of the most injury-plagued players in the league, so the likelyhood of him going down is pretty high.

Can any player get injured... Well obvioulsy.

Management is partly about risk management. Last year Gainey went into the post-season hoping Ribs could handle things if Koivu went down... he couldnt and then he was shipped out of town.
Do you really think that Gainey's confident that Pleks/Bonk can handle it this time around?
I doubt it, which is why I would bet he's been searching for the right trade opportunity since he lost out on the Arnott sweepstakes last year.
WIll it come up... who knows. we ALL know that he won't jump the gun and overpay big time to get it done, but if he's got half a brain he knows relying on Koivu to make it through is a fools bet!

No, it isn't... but for koivu, missing games due to injury/illness definitely is:

2005-06 Montreal NHL 72 17 45 62 +1 70 138 12.32
2004-05 TPS Turku Fin 20 8 8 16 +11 28 - -
2003-04 Montreal NHL 68 14 41 55 -5 52 112 12.50
2002-03 Montreal NHL 82 21 50 71 +5 72 147 14.29
2001-02 Montreal NHL 3 0 2 2 0 0 2 0.00
2000-01 Montreal NHL 54 17 30 47 +2 40 113 15.04
1999-00 Montreal NHL 24 3 18 21 +7 14 53 5.66
1998-99 Montreal NHL 65 14 30 44 -7 38 145 9.66
1997-98 Montreal NHL 69 14 43 57 +8 48 145 9.66
1997-98 Team Finland Olympic 6 2 8 10 - 4 - -
1996-97 Montreal NHL 50 17 39 56 +7 38 135 12.59
1995-96 Montreal NHL 82 20 25 45

Call it bad luck, call it bad karma, what ever it is, some players have injury's follow them around.

10 nhl seasons, 7 with less than 70 games played...

I would... we get rid of 3,5mil for next year and if Bulis, who's an excellent defensive player don't want to play on the 3rd (most probably), we'll either trade him for nothing or send him down, no problem there!

Can you please stop trying to jinx Koivu ?

Our captain is not injury-prone anymore. If you had checked his stats, you could have seen he hasn't been injured more or less than any player since he's recovered from his cancer.

Missing 25 games in 3,5+ years + that freaky eye injury which won't occur again if we avoid meeting Justin Williams' stick in the future.

During the same period, Kovalev has missed 21 games, Markov 33, Souray 27 in the last 2,5+ years (he missed all of 2002-2003)...
