I have a feeling the Nhl is going to invoke special player status on him and allow him to be drafted in 08....just a hunch, it won't be good for the NHL if their future star goes stagnant in his 4th year and falters at the Pro level.

7 point game last night? Cripes.

This kid's gonna be the '06-'07 CHL Player of the Year.

Odds are he'll be drafted first, unless a player absolutely explodes overseas and ends up passing him in his draft year like Kovalchuk did Spezza. I don't see it happening though.

Tavares does everything at a high level except skating, at which he's about average - though he's only 16 and has plenty of time to improve. More of a goal-scorer's mentality than Crosby.

See him for yourself at the OHL All-Star Game on Sportsnet, Wednesday, Jan.31.

I'm really excited for this kid, and I don't know why. This same kind of hype just caused me to hate Crosby for a long time.

It's too bad my favorite team never has a chance to draft talent like this.

Maybe my new second favorite (the pity team), the Kings could get him.

This is really mind-boggling, considering he's still eligible to play for 2 more years in the O. Wow.

Dumb question: how exactly is his last name pronounced?

I would say Tah-Vah-Res. He is Portuguese so thats closest pronunciation I can give you. Not even the Gens announcer says it right.

I'm actually worried that this kid is going to regress because he has to be in this league for 5 years. He's already one of the best players in the CHL.
Man I hate that stupid 'exception rule'.

There's always the chance he'll get complacent if the O isn't a challenge for him after a while. I can't see what more he'll have to accomplish after this season, let alone two years from now.

Maybe playing in the SEL or something after next year would be a better option than spending '08-'09 with the Gens. Unless he's gonna shoot for 100 goals or something.

Winning in the playoffs and making the Canadian junior team are two things he has yet to do in the OHL. Racking up 7 points against an atrocious Windsor team *hardly* leaves him with nothing leave to prove in the O.

Well obviously, but in terms of individual statistical accomplishments, he won't have much to shoot for after this season. The 7 point game is almost insignificant in the bigger picture. 50 goals in 44 games for a 16 year old is unheard of. Nobody does that.

It's almost a given that he'll make the Canadian junior squad next year with all the turnover, and I'm sure that OHL playoff success is forthcoming. If not, it'll hardly be his fault.

Exactly, I can't see his skill level blossom exponentially over the next 2 years. He'll basically be playing against the same skill set night after night for the next 2.5 years.

exactly... unless the kid is determined to score 2-3 goals a night to break some record, i dont see what he'll have left to prove after next year (assuming that he doesnt start tanking next season, which i think is a bit of a long shot, lol).... for his sake, and the sake of canadian hockey, i would like to see move up to a pro league after next season.... it would get him used to playing against men, and allow him to really storm the NHL in his rookie year

Neither Donati will be in the NHL. They will be career ECHL, AHL players.
