NHL 94 was great too. Actually, it's my 2nd favorite of the EA Sports 16 Bit series. My buddy beat me for about the first 3,000 games we played, until I won on the infamous "Graves goal", where my CPU controlled Adam Graves ran into Hasek and pushed him out of his net for a good 30 seconds until I could lob the puck in. It was the cheesiest, sweetest goal of my hockey video game career. After that, my pal's invincible veneer was tarnished, and we pretty much split the games from there on in.
Oddly enough, as good as 94 and 96 were, 95 was kind of a dud. Every player looked like they had rickets, their turning radius was enormous, and virtually every one-timer was an automatic goal. Sucky. I just played 94 until 96 came out.
I hate those kind of "impossible" saves. I've had the net wide open (in NHL 2K7), and have the goalie basically do a backflip and make the save.
I think the thing that made it so amazing to me was that it wasn't "impossible". I know it doesn't show up in still shots like that, but the animation of the goalie was very smooth, and the save was pretty realistic. Essentially, it was my fault for not going top shelf with the shot and thinking I had it in the bag.
The demo was absolutely horrible. I downloaded it and played a single game and deleted it off my HD. The game itself is pretty good though, not of fan of all the enemies with specific hit points, but it was still a lot of fun. I like the MP because you can play 16 player MP online without any lag and the maps are freakin' huge. It was worth the 60 bucks IMO.
Im only on live a couple days a week, but ill send you a FR. Not sure about squiddy though, he may be a little too noob for me (lol did i just say that)
I haven't had a chance to play this one yet...though I plan to rent it soon. I have heard nothing but good things about it though. Especially how good the online play is.
GFX wise gears of war shats all over LP in realism since LP is more of a capcom...cartoonish type game. Not a dig at it, but Gears is a very realistic game.
The downfall to Gears IMO is actually the online play. Just like the officiating there are some "questionable calls" sometimes when it comes to kills. A lot of that has to do with all the latency in the game.
That said, I'd triple deke my way over squidder to victory.
