ALL-STARS 2nite 7:30EST on VS.

From NHL.com:

YOUNG STARS

If you thought the stars came out only for the NHL All-Star Game this season, then you were mistaken. The rosters for the YoungStars Game presented by Upper Deck on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas also pack quite a punch in the luminary category.

The NHL's impressive rookie class will be on display in this unique four-on-four game that precedes the All-Star Skills competition.

Pittsburgh Penguins rookie sensation Evgeni Malkin leads the way and is joined by teammates Ryan Whitney and Jordan Staal, whose brother Eric will play for the Eastern Conference in the All-Star Game.

Boston's Phil Kessel, who just returned to the ice from cancer surgery, also will play for the Eastern YoungStars.

The Western YoungStars are led by the Kings' Anze Kopitar, who also has been a standout performer this season.

Kari Lehtonen, G, Atlanta
The Atlanta Thrashers goaltender is regarded as one of the top goaltending prospects to come to the NHL in decades. The second-overall pick in the 2002 Entry Draft, Lehtonen has posted a 19-11-7 record so far with the Thrashers and has a 2.81 goals-against average.

SUPER SKILLS

Events will be staged as follows:

1) Puck Control Relay
2) Fastest Skater
3) Round 1 – Shootout
4) Hardest Shot
5) Round 2 – Shootout
6) Accuracy Shooting
7) In the Zone
8) Round 3 – Shootout
9) One-on-one Shootout

Looks like the East wins the Young Stars game, though I don't know the West guys as well.

Kari made 3 good bang-bang saves in a row, Malkin spent a lot of time hanging back in the center circle, got 3 long outlet passes for breakaways, scored on none, funny

Yeah, the goalies are busting their butts...everyone else just passing it and shooting...only the bareest of body checks if they happen to be skating side-by-side and there is a little stick defense....6-3 East after 2

Another strong 3rd period for Kari

I am sure he enjoyed the game. He made some terrific saves.

arrgh, we needed Kovi in the speed skate & Slava in the SO, Oveckin was *last* in the speed skate, Marian didn't compete in the SO either.

Marian hit 4 plates in 5 shots and tied for the win, I think but there was noise and I couldn't hear clearly

anyone else find it interesting that Jon Awe's 102 mph shot for best in the ECHL was harder than than Chara's 100.2 or whatever it was??

go jon!! (tennessee boy, at that!!)

I'm just glad Kari made it out of the Future Stars game alive. I was holding my breath on a couple of occasions.

Good to see him smiling. And luckily for the Dallas crowd, he didn't break his stick

Kari looked like he was having fun, even with 8 pucks getting past him.

Did anyone else see the smirk on his face after his little puck handling mishap?

Remember ex-Thrasher prospect Kurtis Foster, now with the Wild? He won the hardest slapshot contest in the AHL's All Star Game a few years back.

I refused to watch any of the skills competition or the All-Star game itself this year because of Rory not making it. My own small form of protest i suppose.
