How the Rangers can relieve the LA Kings Goaltending Dept.

As we all know, the injuries to Dan "Beach Ball" Cloutier and Mathieu Garon have left the Kings with only two minor-league goaltenders, being Barry Brust and Yutaka Fukufuji, as they cannot reclaim Jason LaBarbera from the minors, since he would have to clear waivers.

As a result, the Kings have picked Sean Burke off of waivers from TB. During last nights game against the Coyotes, however, Burke was forced to leavede to apparent dehydration issues. This means that the Kings have been left with a purported NHL-caliber goalie who cant hold his water in long enough, and two goalies with little experience in The Show.

There is no doubt in my mind that with the Kings in a seven-game tailspin, they are going to go for another netminder. The question is: who(m)?

I believe, and bear with me...that this could be a reasonable trade that would benefit both teams...In the short AND long run...

To LA: Al Montoya, Byers, and a 2nd
To NYR: Jack Johnson, & Fukufuji or Labarbera, and a 5th

Let the flaming begin.

Would love Jack Johnson but My problem with the deal is that, IMO, any deal the Rangers make in the next month will be focused on the present and fixing the current roster....In the case of the Kings, not sure who that would be..(Conroy?)

I'm not sure why the Kings need to make a move and certainly not trade either of their best two players (Kopitar or Johnson). They should be stockpiling young talent, not trading it. They're not making the playoffs this season.

The Kings just drafted Jonathan Bernier last year. They're not going to trade for Al Montoya.

Kevin Weekes and a pick for Conroy and Visnovsky is another story.

SBOB, im not denying that the proposal i made is flawed...the chances of the kings one of the best defensive prospects in the last several years are far and few. Also, with Montoya having only been called up to New York while receiving no real action would not constitute and NHL-ready goalie. However, there is little denying the fact that Montoya has shown a strong aptitutde to come into a pressure situation. I figured this trade would rather disperse the balance of each teams prospect "power" to a different focal point.

In our case, we'd have a significantly stronger backend with the addition of johnson, already complimenting Sanguinetti, Staal, and Sauer, while still giving us a chance to either see what Holt is capable of with an increased role in Hartford by sending Fukufuji to the ECHL (although i'd like to see the kid in Hartford personally).

Meanwhile, the Kings would recieve montoya,a n obvious improvement amongst their goalies, along with Byers, a solid addition down the middle, and a second, although I'm not entirely sure how strong the draft is this year.

Interesting offer since there isn't a player we have that even comes close to the potential of Kopitar. The Kings would turn down Jagr for Kopitar even if the salaries were even.

Your theory would make sense if you were talking about Kevin Weekes and not Montoya. You mention that they have two goalies with little experience, how does Montoya relieve that issue? Doesn't make any sense...

Weekes, Immonen, a third, C Orr and Rachunek for Conroy, Sopel and Ivanans
And then for the *ell of it - Ward & Hall for M Nilson on the Flames
Finally - Malik and Hossa + "future considerations" for E Brewer

You then get:

Straka-Nylander-Jagr
Prucha-Conroy-Shanny
Cullen-Krog-Nilsson
Ortmeyer-Betts-Hollweg

Waiting - Ivanans (goon), Ibister, Dubinsky, Dawes, Callahan...

Rozsival - Brewer
Ward - Tyutin
Sopel - Pock

Kaspar, Ozo, Baranka...

Lundquist
Montoya

It will not happen - but it would be fun...

there are plenty of decent options for LA without trading Johnson or Visnovsky, it's not like they're contending or anything.

Johnson and Kopitar aren't going anywhere, they are the building blocks for the Kings. If you guys want Conroy you can have him, he lost his mojo.

I like the proposal but it doesn't make sense for one reason...you're claiming they dont have any goalies with experience in "The Show", so how exactly does Montoya help? He doesn't have any experience and probably isn't NHL ready just yet now anyway.
If anything, I think the Kings are a prime team to trade Kevin Weekes to, and if we can get Conroy and a defensman back, I'd be all for it...oh btw, lets get Cammalleri and Kopitar too if we can

Kings would be crazy to make a trade out of desperation.

The Kings don't need Montoya. They have Bernier, Quick and Zatkoff in the system.

Neither do they need a goalie now because they won't make the playoffs either.

None of these deals make sense for the Kings.

Pass on all of them.

They should just claim Hebert on waivers...

Honestly I wouldn't trade Weekes at this point. I wouldn't resign Weekes (Montoya should get 25-30 NHL starts next season.) but the schedule tightens up at points down the stretch. Weekes has more value to the Rangers than he does as trade bait...

If the Rangers want to go cheap they could probably get Derek Armstrong who is quietly having a decent season...Maybe that's too half-assed to make a mental impact on the team but he is a better option than Cullen at this point..
