Joseph put on the waivers!!!

According to TSN, Goaltender Joseph was told by Detroit GM Ken Holland this morning that he would be put on waivers today and would not be accompanying the team on the road trip that includes a game in St. Louis tomorrow night and Toronto on Saturday.

I really hope the Avs pick him up so he can stick it to Detroit in the playoffs.

Colorado could take him at this point in the season but I still very much doubt they will because he hasn't done anything great and there's still a big chunk of that contract left to pay.

I'd be really surprised to see any team pick him up. He's already passed through waviers once.

I think it's a given that Detroit will have to eat a hefty portion of his salary if they want to move him.

Unless, he's agreed to re-work his deal, if say, Colorado, picks him up.

here's what is left of cujo's contract

2003: 25% season over, 6,000,000
2004: 100% season left, 8,000,000
2005: 100% season left, 8,000,000

Total - 22,000,000

I can only see Colorado or the Rangers thinking about this.

I still see no one picking him up.

That 2005 salary is a bonus option. If he wins the cup, or a total of 6 playoff rounds thru out the length of the contract.

I think it's relatively obvious that no one is gonna pick him up

sad story, as he still is a decent netminder, IMO
salary size aside, there are plently of teams that could use him as an upgrade between the pipes

Isn't his deal three years, done after next season?

The sad thing is he'll find it hard to see playing time in Grand Rapids. Both goalies Lamothe and MacDonald have been playing very good.

It's not that sad. If he said he'd take a paycut to 4 mil in exchange for the Wings trading him, I'm sure the Wings would agree. Could put in a stipulation that if the Wings could trade him he'd take a paycut to 4 mil a year.

It's not like the guy doesn't have a boatload of money already.

This is a case of you play with the bull, you get the horns.

Cujo's loyalty is to Cujo and not any teams or any fans. People who think of poor Cujo, realize that when he dumped Edmonton and Toronto high and dry, it was pretty much too bad for them.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, I don't feel sorry for him. Although I am mellowing a bit seeing him flail like a fish out of water doesn't give me the same pleasure that it once would.

If I were Curtis I would get my agent to renegotiate my contract with my "new" team as they selected me on waivers and make it very performance based. For the Avalanche, $3.5 million base and an extra million per playoff round and some other regular season reasonable bonuses, and then get back in the game.

I would probably venture to guess it was the Red Wings owners who put the contract in front of him and a Bic pen in his hand and said "Hey Curtis, here's 24 mill guarenteed and another 8 mill if you can win us a cup or 6 playoff rounds in the next 3 years!!!" that made him think he was worth that kind of dough in the first place!

I wouldn't shed too many tears. No matter where he puts on the pads, Cujo's family will still be eating ok!!

I think the Avs have a better chance of taking Detroit out in the playoffs is Aebischer's in goal. Joseph would be Aebischer's backup in Colorado right now, so that's not going to happen.

I couldn't agree more with the "you play with the bull, you get the horns" remark. It's so true.

Don't kid yourself into believing Cujo would be the backup in Av-land.

I think that of all the available goaltenders out there....Cujo is the best the Avs could do, and gives them a far better chance at the cup than Abby.

As much as I don't like Curtis Joseph, he is a far superior goalie to Aebischer.

Am I the only one that thinks this is awsome? Detroit should eat his salary for 3 years!

That option year is a real problem. The only teams that would be interested in picking up Cujo's salary would be those who think they have a real chance at the Cup. But winning the Cup with Cujo will cost an additional year at 8M...and that could be tough to fit under a cap.

The Avs might be willing to pick him up if it wasn't for the option year. They would have to pay him the 6M for the rest of this year. I expect the lockout to eat up at least half of next year, so the most they would owe him is 4M...a total of 10M for the next two years. They could handle it. But another year at 8M...which would cripple the Avs if there is a cap...no

If Joseph wants to play in the NHL, he should think about dropping that option year...

No, I think it's sad in the unfortunate sense for Cujo. I like Cujo and was greatful for his play for the Leafs, and his play during that time is what warranted the contract (not saying 8mil is justified, but then again, all NHLr's are overpaid IMO). And BTW, he didn't flee to Detroit because of the money, he took less to play there, Toronto offered 1/2 mill more per year, he just thought he had a better chance of the cup. Like most Leaf fans, his departure from here left a bitter taste, but because of Belfour's play, that quickly deminished.

Cujo's a good guy, although not exactly Brett Hull when it comes to interviews who put a lot back into the community and continues to do so here in Toronto despite not playing here. He's just in an unfortunate situation with the return of Hasek and even on his bad days is too good a goalie to play in the AHL.

You can't blame him for making the kind of money he is. If it's on the table, take it. The Red Wings dealt wrongly with this and put them in the situation they're in now. They've only themselves to blame.

It's very convenient how when at the beginning of the season fans were saying don't trade him to Colorado, it could come back to haunt them, but now are saying that maybe if he took a pay cut, they could move him easier. All because his play hasn't met expectations thus far.
