I'm just getting sick of the Oilers getting bashed and it's been happening since June 2000 but it's gotten worse since July 2006. Pronger destoryed the organization by demanding a trade. Because he demanded a trade, UFAs will not sign with the Oil even if the Oil offer more. The Oil offered $7M to Chara but he signed in Boston. They offered almost the same to Spacek but he signed with Buffalo. Money won't get the Oil any UFAs and that can be blamed at Pronger's feet.

Chara signed for 7.5 million, not sure how you expect him to take a $500,000 paycut for no real reason

Also I think it was reported that 10-15 teams offered Chara a contract, however he could only sign with one team

Spacek said he signed in Buffalo mainly because there is much less travel

That is another reason the schedule needs to be changed. The eastern teams rarely fly and can bus it from city to city. With a more interlocking schedule, the eastern teams would have to travel more and the west wouldn't be at such a disadvantage, especially Edmonton.

Vancouver, Calgary, Anehiem, San Jose, Dallas, Detroit, all have as big a disadvantage as the Oilers, its no excuse....

But those teams don't get bashed by their fans like the Oil do.

Actually Spacek was quite vocal about the fact that the Oilers just squeaked into the playoffs and he felt that Buffalo was a better team....he was right.

As for the game....the Oilers are getting their a** kicked with regularity now. Grade 'A' quality scoring chance after grade 'A' quality scoring chance and some people still think it's Rolosons fault. The team defence is a sad joke as it stands right now and this team is quickly becoming a bottom feeder.
The only word that describes this team right now is embarassing.

OT: Curb your enthusiasm is the funniest show on TV since Seinfeld ended. Anyone who liked Seinfeld should go and rent all 5 seasons of curb on dvd. (There might be a 6th, but not out on DVD yet)

Which part of the Oilers is destroyed? Which part of Edmonton? The entire organisation? The entire city? Wow. Pronger is some sort of god in your universe. Wow. Absolute insanity.

Vancouver and Calgary certainly do. And who cares if a fan bashes a team, then the team should try and do something to change the minds of the fans, you can't blame fans for criticizing a team that does ******, its not the fans fault or Prongers fault that this team doesn't show up or give a crap 60% of the games.

I guess we still have a chance to go 3-1 this season against one of the best teams in the league??

That of course will be little consolation if the teams fails to make the playoffs....

Ah yes...moral victories. The first refuge of fans who suddenly realize they are cheering for a bottom feeder.

You obviously weren't on the Sharks board when there was a rather extended "Fire Ron Wilson" thread after the first loss of the season, against the Oilers..

...and that has to do with travel because...?

Why should we as fans be okay with a team that is on a level playing field with the Detroits and Colorados, and yet is still fighting for a playoff spot in January? When is it alright to demand a winner? All the posters here want the team to win, and when they don't, especially after last year's run, they are disappointed. Who cares if I or anyone else rips on the team? When the players look like they don't give a damn out there, it pisses people off.

Nobody wants to sign with Edmonton. Lowe tried and got turned down time and time and time again. There's this myth that it's -38 degrees 8 months of the year in Edmonton. For Edmonton to lure UFAs, they're going to have to make a DVD pointing out the good things to do and that it's not -38 degrees 8 months of the year.

Your right the Oilers should make a DVD pointing out the positives of Edmonton, if they didn't its there fault, not Chris Prongers, not the fans, not the travel, its the fault of management...

100 percent sure this team will not make the playoffs even with good trades. There are too many players who don't give enough effort every night. They are capable but don't bring it to the table.

Sweet Mother of Pearl...

After reading this thread and the board in general tonight, I think I'm glad I decided to blow a wad of cash at IKEA tonight, instead of watching the Oilers.

At least I got a s**** closet organizer out of the deal...

This game against the Sharks was bound to happen. The Oilers for at least 85-95% of the time against San Jose has been outplayed. The first game was a monumental collapse by San Jose and the 2nd was the Oilers taking advantage of Shark overaggressiveness in the 1st period and catching a good bounce of the puck.

In the whole season, the Sharks outplayed the Oilers for 7 of the 9 periods they've played each other. Only Roloson has been the consistent performer in the series.

Wow... this game looked a lot like the 3-2 win.

Except the Oilers weren't nearly as lucky here...

Pronger demanding a trade did not destroy the oilers - it's quite the opposite. Look at the big picture. You lost Brewer, a decent top 4 dman and two prospects that may never pan out. You gained Pronger who took you to the finals, lost Pronger and gained lupul, Smid and two first round picks. Essentially the oilers lost Brewer, gained a playoff run (12 mil profit they wouldn't have got with Brewer), gained Lupul, Smid and two firsts, both of which COULD end up being bigger and better than Brewer. IMO the oilers made off like bandits. Lupul for Brewer is probably a realistic straight across trade.

There are a lot of reports that Kevin Lowe and Pronger had made the deal that signed Pronger for five years but guaranteed Pronger a trade after his first season in Edmonton, thus essentially keeping his UFA status and virtually picking the team he wanted to play for. If there are any truths to the Florida Bouwmeester rumours, maybe it was Pronger that quashed the trade and not the offer from Florida. I am not convinced there was a Florida offer though. Let's not forget the pronger trade rumours started in November of last year. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. It is far fetched but the oilers still made off well on the original Brewer trade.
