as for what trigg said about the ronning\karalahti trade, honestly...i think that was a good trade. karalahti got the shaft, but if not for that, we had ourselves a pretty good physical d-man...while taking away legwand's leaning post in ronning.

Craig Johnson, Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat a 1st and a 5th.

THe only one still playing is Johnson and he is one of the worst in the leauge and surprisingly he is still playing with Ana after LA fans Drove him out.

Gretz was set to become ufa though, and they had no intention of keeping him.

While Gretzky *was* set to become UFA, supposedly there were several better offers on the table (Shanahan straight up, Pronger straight up)

I'm sure. Keenan said take Pronger, and then Taylor(dunno if he was the man back then) said how about no, and I'll take...

No, Pronger was with Hartford at the time. Supposedly the Capitals had a package centering around Allison.

The GM was not Dave Taylor. I forget who it was exactly, though.

Sam the DISASTER McMaster. Guy had one or two good trades the rest were horrible.

The Gretzky Trade.

Other gems from him.

Robitaille for Rick Tocchet

Robb Stauber, Alex Zhitnik and Tsygurov for Grant Fuhr, Phillipe Boucher(Note he was really non-existant until 2000's) and Charly Huddy

Kevin Stevens for Rick Tocchet.

Shane Churla and Doug Smolek for Darryl Sydor.

His only good Trade IMO

McSorley Kurri and Shane Churla for Ferraro Laperriere LaFayette and Norstrom. That was his horrible reign as the Kings sucked.

Didn't have a winning season in his tenure. DT Came and had a winning season his first season.

Ellett was gone that summer. There was only one draft pick, a 3rd rounder; the Devils used it to select Scott Parker, who never played a game anywhere in the Devils' org before re-entering the draft and being selected by Colorado.

Then Hartford/Carolina traded Shanny for Primeau (he DID score that 50 goals one season, but I think it was a horrible trade), but I think salvaged the situation by trading Primeau for Brindamore, Pelletier, and a pick (I think).

I'd MUCH rather have Brindy then Primeau. (Btw, Linden - Brind'amour - Primeau was quite frankly the only line working at Nagano.)

Yeah, that's what I meant. Messier out of Edmonton for Bernie Nicholls and Steve Rice and whatever crap it was.

Sorry, Keith Primeau has never scored 50 goals. That year he scored 50 points. Whoops, terrible trade.

When it all shook out it was Messier and Beukeboom for Nichols, Rice, David Shaw and Louie DeBrusk (still one of the best hockey names).

Pronger was already with the blues when they acquired gretzky. Shanahan was in hartford.

I personally don't remember the exact details of this trade. But I read it on Mikael Renberg's profile at TSN.com.

Philadelphia Flyers traded
Mikael Renberg
Karl Dykhuis

to the Tampa Bay Lightning
1st round selection in 1998 (Simon Gagne)
1999 (Maxime Ouellet)
2000 (Justin Williams)
2001 (previously acquired, later traded to Ottawa - Tim Gleason).

Can someone verify if this is true? If it is, this has got to be one of the worst. Can you imagine TB with Gagne and Williams in their lineup?

This is sort of true, depending on how you look at it i guess. what actually happened was Phili signed Gratton to an offer sheet that Tampa didn't want to match. instead of taking what would have been phili's next 3 1st round picks as compensation, Tampa decided to make a trade to acquire renberg and dykuis. so essentially, the transaction was Gratton for renberg and dykuis. i suppose the lightning could have taken the draft picks (which were 3, not 4) but they wanted veterans at the time, having had a few years of drafting pretty high.

it also is not a given that tampa picks those exact players, but i agree with you, if they did, they would be sick.

So, for Selanne and Tverdovsky the Ducks got Rob Neidermayer and Petr Sykora. I'll take that.

I agree with kenabnrml that Jordan Leopold for Andrei Nazarov was the biggest mistake.

The year he got traded for Shanny was the year he held out with the Wings right?

How would anybody in their RIGHT MIND trade SHANNY for Primeau? (Ok, so at that time Keith Primeau was supposed to be "the next" power forward. Look at how that turned out).

But I'd say Carolina salvged it by getting Brind'amour back.

I'd say Primeau was another one of Clarke's "I like big players" situations.
