That's rob blake by the way. APparently he and Rollie have some sort of connection and are trying to bring him on for a playoff run.

He'd be awesome in Oil silks. Just the type of player that nobody has beentalking about that KLowe is smart eough to go after.

Best thing Rollie's done all month! haha

GO OIL

Blake makes 6m/yr and is retiring a King.
Enough said.

6M/year? Yeah, true enough, I have no idea how this would work then.

Oh well!

Enough said.
I don't think it is enough said...even though this one's chances look pretty slim as well. As mentioned, a killer contract for next year which would preclude signing Smyth or Sykora without some extensive rewiring of the team.

Always loved the way he played back in his heyday. He absolutely crushed people, yet was still good offensively.

$$$

Likewise, from what I've seen from Blake this season, his level of play has really declined and he's not nearly worth what he's currently making (considering the fact that he's signed through next season if I remember correctly). I'd rather save the dollars and try and make a big run at one of Stuart, Markov or Timonen in the off-season (one of whom would likely come cheaper).

Plus, I hate rentals. No thanks from me.

EDIT: Actually, he's signed for one more year. How does Eklund make everything fit. This is why the guy has very little credibility. If Blake is an Oiler, Smyth is not an Oiler.

The connection is that Blake is Roli's best friend. You find that out in the video in which Roli is talking about his new mask (when he first got it last season)...They both grew up in Simcoe, Ont playing hockey together so yah, that's the connection

The biggest problem with Blake is that he's not a rental - he's signed through next season at a ridiculous $6 million. If we're going to spend $6 million on a defenceman next season, I'd rather simply go out and overpay one of Stuart, Timonen or Markov who are all better options than Blake at this stage in his career.

Unless the kings are picking up some of his salary no thanks. We could find a better, younger D for 6 mill in the offseason.

Oh its enough, believe me.
You can pay Blake's 6m next year, but Smyth shouldn't get 6m?
Seriously, there is no way in hell Blake will end up in Edmonton.

Works for me...

If the Oilers want to be on the hook for 6 bills next season, I'd hope they would find someone else to spend it on than a rapidly depreciating asset like Blake.

I'd much rather see them overpay Smyth for 6 million than see Blake here for that kind of coin.

Why couldn't we just trade for him at the deadline then trade him back after the playoffs?

I would love to have Blake but as others mentioned, how would that fat salary possibly fit in this year and next year?

exactly... i dont think smyth is worth 6 million, but hes a lot closer to being worth that then blake is... id rather overpay for smyth than *extremely* overpay for blake

I very highly doubt this will happen, I would say it's got a 1.3% chance of happening......
HOWEVER, why do all of you say this "could never work"??? Get creative people! First and foremost, what if Shawn Horcoff is part of what's going the other way??? That's 3.6(I think?)off the books. Immediatly we're only taking on 2.4 million.
2nd, THIS SEASON, he costs less then 3 mil for the remainder of the season and we've hardly taken on more salary this year, so it's less then 1.2 mil against the cap for the rest of the season.
3rd, who's to say that part of the oringinal package isn't to ship him back to LA for a pick on draft day??? He wants to end his career as a King, but why not help Rollie out for a few months and play in your home country for the first time in your career....it might be a great time for him! Again, in no way do I see it ever happening, but it would upgrade the blueline a lot, wouldn't command a lot in return, and is a good leader. Here is SOMETHING that they could do to make it happen if Lowe and Lombardi wanted too:

Blake to Edm
for
Horcoff, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick

with the agreement that on draft day....
3rd round pick to Edm
for
Blake

Now I don't want to get into if LA would want Horcoff or not people I'm just presenting the IDEA of how it could be done, and still no I don't think Blake is comming to LA.

Edit: I see FREAKIN Mr.Bugg already posted this reasoning as I was typing all this!!!

Salaries could work, but there would have to be multiple salaries signed for multiple years going back to LA.

Example:

To LA: Joffrey Lupul (2.23) + Shawn Horcoff (3.6) = 5.83

To EDM: Rob Blake (6) + Sean Avery (1.1) = 7.1

I would hate it, but the salaries could work.

I know it's just an example and all, but your post gave me a case of the vurps.

Yeah, typing that name didn't exactly feel good either.

However, I have to admit, much like Tucker, adding a guy like Avery on our team (and playing him with a finesse player like Hemsky or Sykora) might do wonders.

Deep down, I can get with that. And it's not like he can't play the game.

Still, he's such an idiot...and that fact that he was unfathomably able to hook up with Elisha Cuthbert doesn't help my digestion any either.

I agree that Blake is overpaid but is he really overpaid by that much? I don't think there's much question that he's not worth 6 mill but he's worth at least 4-5 IMO although I'll admit I haven't seen many Kings games this year (central time zone). At 6 mill, I don't think Blake's a good option unless it's something like Horcoff and Tjarnqvist going the other way. I'd rather give that 6 mill to Smyth than to Blake but there's not much question a top pairing defencemen is needed.
