GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings

(23-22-4 50pts) vs (17-28-6 40pts)

Last Meeting: Edmonton 2 Los Angeles 1 (OT)

Oilers last game: 5-1 loss vs San Jose

Kings last game: 3-2 OT-win vs Vancouver

Special teams:

Edmonton PP 15% (27th), PK 87.4% (2nd)

Kings PP 16.9% (17th), PK 76.9% (29th)

So far I'm 3-0, and If we win tonight, Rin is going to undercut my attempt at going on a streak by posting a GDT at some godly hour in the morning.

This game in my estimation should determine which way the Oilers decide to go for the of the season. I have my own feelings on which way that should be, but hopefully they can put a good effort forward.

2-1 Oilers

Is it on CBC tonight?

From TSN Ice Chips

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=10460&hubname=

Steve Staios returns from knee injury and will try to play tonight. C Petr Nedved appears to be a healthy scratch (not confirmed but he was skating on defence with the 7th man). Tough guy Zack Stortini has been recalled from Hamilton and may play.

Also, with Nedved out, projected line might look like this...

Forwards
Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Sykora - Petersen - Lupul
Torres - Stoll - Pisani
Winchester - Reasoner - Thoresen

Defence
Staios - Smid
Smith - Hejda
Greene - Bergeron

Goaltender
Roloson

JUST WIN!! (It's not too much to ask, right?)

Jussi better be in goal tonight. And maybe try Hemsky with Torres and Stoll for a shift and move Pisani up to the Smyth and Horcoff line. All i want is a win, and it is possible and do-able, come on guys, put some effort in. Nice GDT DB!

Reasoning behind Nedved being scratched? I was actually relatively impressed with him last night.

Well, he was brought in to bring offence, and he hasn't. I guess bring in a guy that can do other things on the ice better than him, instead of praising nedved for being mediocre at all non-offence aspects of the game while waiting for him to put up some points playing with our best players.

Wow, there's a Ottawa game at 1pm. Gotta cheer against them now that they voted against the schedule change.

If they sit Nedved, they might as well sit 75% of the team and bring up the farm because they all played like *$#@!

I think the Oil lose yet again and entices Lowe to make sudden moves.

I'd like for the Oil to win naturally, but just don't see it.

I predict an ugly 3-1 loss.

I posted this in another thread:

Last night in the second period, when the Czechs were out on the ice, Hemsky had the puck and made a move at the blueline, putting Nedved offside. Someone on the left side of the Oilers bench (MacT is my guess) must have said something, because as Nedved was coming off the ice, he looked over and said "**** you", with an angry look on his face. They showed MacTavish a few minutes later and he had a look on his face like he was pissed off but trying his best not to flip out.

Am I the only one who saw this? If you recorded the game, go take a look.

Anyway, please win Oilers.

Last night reminded me of a SNL commercial for an albumn called "songs that made even ardent fans realize something is seriously wrong with the band".

Last night was the game that made even the most die hard fans realize this team has serious problems.

My biggest worry is that there are problems between coaches and players right now, how else do you explain lackluster emotion from the club.

Yeah im with you ODH, I'm sick of this worrying about getting into the playoffs, i just want a team who are able to dominate night in night out, giving 100% effort, maybe losing one here and there...come on Oil, go on a massive Win streak...

I agree, we need to try something new. What we have been doing obviously isn't working right now.

Agreed. Hemsky needs to play with at least 1 or 2 gritty type players on his line that can muck it up along the boards. I like Sykora but he is a bit soft and too slow most of the time to hang with Hemmer on the rush and down low.

Problem with moving Hemsky away from Sykora is he is completely useless without Hemmer on his line, although recently it hasn't even mattered. At this point, I'd rather the Oilers not sign Sykora again, and try and get another UFA euro winger, or better yet a goal scoring centerman. I remember at the start of the year, us Oiler fans were saying how well Sykora was doing, and a NYR fan pointed out that he always starts out strong, and then finishes off weak with new teams. I passed that off thinking well he wasn't playing with Hemsky on any other team. But it has come true sadly.

I wouldn't mind seeing:

Smyth - Horc - Pisani
Torres - Stoll - Hemsky
Sykora - Petersen/Nedved/Reasoner - Lupul
Thor - Petersen/Nedved/Reasoner - Winchester

Maybe the offensive lines like this:

Smyth-Horcoff-Pisani
Torres-Stoll-Hemsky
Sykora-Reasoner-Lupul
Thoreson-Peterson-Winchester

It'll give us 2.5 offensive lines....?
