If we can land Scott Parker too, I'd be all for this trade...

It's not only useless but a complete waste of an asset. I'm shocked that this is even seriously being discussed.

Considering how much help this team needs "defensively" I'm all for the trade.
We need some sort of a shutdown unit, and pairing Hannan with Chara would give us that IMO.

I think Stuart is a bit overrated, but even so....no deal.

Assume HOH suggested the trade contingent upon both players resigning with the teams they'd be traded to. Assume Brad Stuart's family makes playing on the west coast a must -- he'll have less leverage in negotiating his next contract. This would probably result in a hometown discount for San Jose. If Boston can arrange a new contract with Hannan, is it worth it? Or do you think his asking price is too high? Or would you rather have picks/prospects in trade for Stuart?

Personally, if all these wrinkles could be ironed out I think it's a best case scenario for trading Stuart.

Sign Stuart.

Trade Chara to LA for Kopitar and Avery.

I'd do it, but I doubt Chiarelli would.

I would not be interested in a Hannan for Stuart swap. Doesnt make sense. Rather deal off Stuart for younger, inexpensive parts and use the money for a FA defenseman in the offseason. Its too bad that he doesnt want to sign, he is the exact type of player we would be looking for in the offseason anyway.

If this team continues to trade Captains, and guys they just signed -- the bad reputation will continue and FA's will look the other way

Can we just trade the entire team? This team is friggin' horrible.

Time to start looking forward to the draft.

the problem isn't stuart imo, it's lewis and his poor coaching, plus the frankenchara's
nightly useless performances. this guy has a no trade. what a mistake.

Stuart has more potential to be a number 1... but will draw a greater salary as things play out.

Hannan is ideally suited to be a very good 3/4 guy which is what we need.... a very good one.

Stuart is played below his position used in this situation... and the cap cost will prevent us from filling another spot correctly.

Its not just Stuart for Hannan... if this deal did go down, it would be a guy unwilling to sign for the money we can afford in exchange for theoletically a guy who's contract makes sense and cap room to flush out the rest of the lineup.

The more spots filled with good players the better...

Of course... Hannan isnt likely to salvage the season this year for us. He is an UFA. If we want him, we can simply be high bidder for him.

Stuart for something not an UFA signed at a good price and then signing Hannan this summer would prob be the smarter way to go.

If we do deal with San Jose, Id like to see us return Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau to them too and take Mark Bell and his legal problems off their hands. I think that we'd be do a draft pick if we did the deal and in effect it would then be Joe Thornton for Scott Hannan, Mark Bell, draft pick which not a great deal, but is one I will live with given everyone's salary.
