No doubt in my mind Conroy is reunited with Iggy. The chem these two had in the cup run and years prior is unmatched (for this team anyhow). Langkow plays well with Iggy too, but its not even on the same level as Conroy + Iggy.

Finally moves Langkow down to the 2nd line where he is suited most and IMO Lombardi moves to 2nd line RW.

Kobasews days are numbered.

Conroy
Langkow
Yelle
Ritchie

Thats 4 pretty solid centreman who are strong on the faceoffs. Conroy will really help in this area.

He should know. Perhaps the 4th rounder is conditional and the 2nd isn't.

lundmark sucks, hopefully the picks are relatively high.
Like The Mars Volchenkov said, Kings fans wanted Volchenkov/Vermette + picks for Conroy . I'm so glad we got Comrie for a non roster player and no picks.

Every Ottawa trade proposed in November was utter crap. Fans (and possibly other GMs) were hoping that Ottawa would make a panic move. But Muckler is a savy cat, and he didn't even fire the coach. And boy am I glad that he didn't do more than that.

Conroy's had a bad year in a bad circumstance in which his role on the ice was redefined way too much for him to find a comfort level. I'm sure he'll do very well in Calgary.

As for the return, I think DL did well. Lundmark won't help the PK (nor much else) for anyone suggesting such a thing, but the overall quantity of the package makes it a decent return.

Because Yelle is a TRUE 3rd line center??? Conroy will be in a top 6 role..Kobasew is injured and Huselius has played well on RW lately.

Those of you saying this is a bad move by Sutter and that COnroy is over the hill, yada yada yada. This guy has performed well in a flames uni, and everyone knows what he will bring to the team - not just on but off the ice, in the locker, etc. Letting him go 2 years ago was one of Sutters biggest mistakes and he knew it right from day one - otherwise he wouldnt have been tryin to get him back in the past 6 months. Sutter wanted him back long ago, but was just waiting it out a bit hoping his value will drop....and it did. No way he would have gotten him for Lundmark and 2 low picks at the start of the season.

I will say this will probably turn out to be one of Sutters best moves as GM. Conroy will fit right back in like hes never left calgary. Its all about chemistry and we all know you can never have enough of it.

I think the greatest benefit this gives playfair is the versatility of his centres - now he has options he's never had before. IF Yelle goes down again, we have Conroy to replace his shoes. Now Yelles icetime during ES can be cut down a bit and saved up more for what hes meant for - PK. But looking down the middle, all 4 centres are capable of killing penalties and having pretty decent on faceoffs. IMO Conroy is now the #1 faceoff man (at least on the top 2 lines).

Now Sutter can throw out 3 units on the PK, Yelle, Lombo, Conroy being the centres - pretty nice luxury and Conroy really boosts their PK and 2 way game.

For anyone who doesn't think Forsberg is worth at least a 1st round pick and a good prospect...chew on this.

I've been a fan of Conroy since his days with the Blues, and barring capturing past glory he had with Iginla (which I think may happen) this is an overpayment by the Flames. Sutter is another one who doesn't like 2nd round picks

Fair deal.

If conroy and iginla team up with success again, watch out.

When is iginla back anyway? I heard he practiced today. This could be done with some thought to timing as well. Bring them both back together.

Giving up a 2nd is even worse than giving up two lower picks.

And if he does have chemistry with Iginla and magically re-becomes the guy he used to be. Then its all bonus.

Good team guy. Veteran. Good pick-up before playoffs. Good move Flames.

Good salary dump. Picks up picks. Continue rebuild. Good move LA

Considering that Conroy was garnering first line center minutes/responsibilities when the Flames last were in the Finals a mere three years ago, and considering the very modest pricetag (only on HF are Jamie friggin' Lundmark and two picks considered "too much"), this was a wise acquisition for the Flames.

Adds depth, and a guy familiar with the surroundings. He will not be asked to do same as '04, but it's a logical "gamble" on Sutter's part that a change of scenary (and place in the standings) will bring out the best in him.

Likewise, makes sense for LA.

Good deal for both teams it looks like. Conroy's had success in Calgary before and while I thought he would have been cheaper (I was guessing a 2nd rounder) the 4th rounder and Lundmark are spare parts at best. The Kings get a solid draft pick and the Flames get a versatile forward that can play pretty much on any line in any situation and is a good guy to have come playoff time. As much as I hate to say it the Flames seem like a team built for the playoffs.

These are the lines i would like to see.

FInally kobasew off the top 2 lines. And the flames finally have a solid top 6 now.

Tanguay-Conroy-Iginla
Hesulius-Langkow-Lombardi
Moss-Yelle-Kobasew
Friesen-Ritchie-Amonte

Props to Hockeybuzz blogger Dan Tencer who was ahead on this one....This trade has been discussed in these parts for the entire season. This was always a contingency plan for the Flames, and I am very happy for the fans of Calgary and Craig, who is a really solid individual. This trade will have some ripple down effect as there were other teams that wanted to get Conroy including Atlanta and the NY Rangers, and the Habs according to my sources…

Great move for the Flames. Now they are a really deep team at center and it's defenitly a team built for a long playoff run.

Is Calgary now a "contender"? I'd say so, if they weren't before.

The Flames only have this season and next to take a serious run at the Cup. Next summer: Kipprusoff, Iginla, Langkow, Yelle, Huselius and Regehr are UFAs, Phaneuf is an RFA.

This is it for the Flames. This year and next, then the tough decisions are upon them.
